This document contains a series of links to photographs taken by Michael Kenna. It also includes a description of one particular photo showing boats docked at night with brightly lit buildings in the background. The description notes the contrast between the dark boats and the light from the buildings reflecting on the water, as well as the blurry sky around the building edges.
12. I really like this photo, and chose to
describe this one because of the
way the boats are dark in the front,
and the buildings have lots of lights
in the back round. I also think it is
cool how the boats reflect on to the
water. It seems like the
photographer took the picture from
about the same level as the water.
I like how the lights brighten up the
buildings in the back round, and
somewhat shine on the end of the
boats. What I do not like about this
particular picture is the sky. It is
some what blurry around the edges
of the buildings. What I would
change about it would be to take the
picture at an earlier time in the day.
Maybe about a couple hours earlier
before it gets dark. Probably
around sunset. The center of
interest in this photo is the boats
along with the posts they are tied up
to. This photo does a good job of
contrasting the dark versus the light.
It shows the bright buildings, and
they are probably part of a busy city
night. But it also shows the dark
boats, along with the calm water.
