This document discusses how the magazine cover, contents, and double page spread address and attract the target audience of indie rock fans.
The cover uses a brick wall background and advertises popular indie artists to give an urban/indie feel. It promotes the magazine as the UK's #1 indie publication. Contests and album advertisements also aim to attract students.
The contents page features images from indie concerts to make readers feel part of the scene. It promotes subscribing for discounts and interviews popular artist Elena about her band breakup. Feature articles on well-known indie bands are also included.
The double page spread leads with a large quote from the interview subject. It keeps the simple color scheme
2. HASTE
COVER
The new up coming artists and older
artists that are related to the Indie
Rock genre. They are indie favourites
of 2014 because of their popular
music so the audience may want to
see reviews of these artists and
upcoming news.
The brick wall is effective as it is faded
out and the model Elena is stood out in
front of the background due to my edit.
This attracts the audience as the brick
wall gives a much urban/indie feel as it
isn’t girly so therefore it looks
sophisticated and professional to the
indie genre.
‘UK’s no 1 indie rock magazine’
attracts he indie rock audience as it
is a quote from the magazine and it
is advertising the popularity of this
magazine in particular.
Albums are advertised at the bottom of
the cover with a ‘WIN’ option along the
bottom to attract the audience. The
audience is of an age where albums are
popular to be played in cars or
downloaded onto iTunes and the
audience are mostly in demographic E
which is unemployed students so they
would like the chance to win a free
album of one of their favourite
bands/artists.
‘Haste awards’, targets the audience as
the age range are the type of people
who watch award shows and are
interested in sharing their opinion so
therefore having an awards for ‘Haste’
will be great for them. I got this
inspiration from ‘NME awards’ which is
seen to be very popular with their
target audience. My target audience is
similar to NME’s target audience so this
would also apply to Haste.
Heroes special is more for the older
audience who enjoy the older music
but the two names on the cover can be
popular to all of my target audience as
they are very popular in the indie rock
genre.

CONTENTS
I attract the young artists by
advertising festivals such as V fest,
Reading & Leeds which involve the
indie rock genre performing.
Free tickets to see the indie
rock band Haim in concert
and the chance to meet Miles
Kane. Both popular indie
rock artists and these are
both shown clearly on my
contents.
Images of gigs attract my audience of
indie rock as it is showing what they’re
currently missing out on. I took these
images myself and within shows the
atmosphere of the surroundings which
attracts the audience as they want to
feel a part of this indie community.
A ‘subscribe and you can get £1 off an issue’ attracts
the audience as it is bribing them to subscribe to
the magazine and ultimately get money off their
next issue. Due to the target audience of
demographic E, even a £1 off an issue could make a
difference to them as they may be students with
loans.
The image of the feature ‘Elena’ attracts the audience
as she looks happy although the interview is about her
splitting from her popular band ‘Puzzles’ so therefore
the audience may be intrigued to what her feelings are.
Also this image contrasts the cover image and the gig
images, giving the contents a more lighter approach
which draws the audiences attention as from looking at
the cover they did not expect this amount of lightness.
Features, Reviews & Plus all attract the audience as
they are the main headings in the contents, showing
them what my magazine has to offer. The popular indie
bands beneath draw the audience in, as well as the
witty words creating puns with Peace for example ‘In
love’ with Peace? As their most popular album is called
‘In Love’. The words ‘exclusive’ and ‘plus’ stand out
attracting the audience also.

DOUBLE
PAGE
SPREAD
I have used a blown up
quote to draw attention to
the audience as this is an
important quote which is
mostly likely to be read
before the article is read.
Therefore giving the
audience an insight into
what they are going to
start reading. The quote
involves her new album
release which is based in
the indie rock genre so
targets this audience.
The main image fades into the background as the white colour scheme is kept the same, linking
with my contents page. The colour scheme is kept over all of white, red and black which are the
main colours for the indie rock genre as they are dark yet sensible colours so therefore this
attracts my target audience very well.
There is a big letter to start
everything off which targets
the audience as it looks
attractive and appealing as
well as separating the
structure adding a pretty
larger font.
Albums target the audience as this particular
album which I created myself is my main features
album. The audience reading this article will
most likely be interested in the feature (Elena)
and they may want to listen to her new album as
this is the purpose to the interview as a whole.
The quotes shown
throughout, at the top “When
one of us…”and near the
image draw the readers in as
they are important things the
feature, Elena, has said. Also
people interested in this indie
rock model as well as the
bands she discusses as being
indie will want to read this
interview also.
