  1. Introduce the Essential Elements as a research based framework that identifies the key components of a middle school. Make the point that the research has been done, using the state assessments, that clearly concludes that schools with greater implementation of the essential elements have higher student achievement. Introduce these as the “standards” for middle schools. Make sure the organizers have been distributed to all attendees.
