Reshaping reality in
Turkish Media
IINTRODUCTION: MEDIA TRANSFORMATION HAS SOME
CONSEQUENSES

• Conglomeration, control and crude commercialism made by
private televisions had a deep impact on economic and socio-
  political functionning.

• Turkish mainstream media’s contents dominated by an
intensive culture of mass commercialism by a preference to
  sports, scandal and popular entertainment.

• Differently then Europe; deregulation and development of
commercialization increased uses of Turkish media by
  business interests.
• Turkish journalists claim that they adopt and exercise the neutral
and objective model of journalism which functions as a watchdog
over system. But in the same time, these journalist are ready to
accept that their news organizations relay interpretive frameworks
consonant with the interests of the owners.

• The types of pressure journalists perceive in their proffesion to
cencor news content include story suppression, chanching the angle
and/or tone of a story, or critism from superiors for a completed
story that was damaging to the commercial interests of the parent
  conglomerate or advertiser.

• Regarding the sociologist Sencer Ayata "The area where the rise of
religiosity as well as Islamic fundamentalism is most visible in the
world of communication" Today, the conservative/Islamist print and
broadcasting media can easily rival the mainstream media.
An example of changing angle of story: Egg
crisis: AKP partys politics, deputy and
  supportes versus university students
News gatheredfrom Hürriyet; 8 december2010;

• Everythings was started in Ankara University Faculty of Political Science.
General Secretary of CHP (Turkish Opposition Party) Süheyl Batum and
President of the Commission of Constitution of Parliament (AKP) Burhan
Kuzu were participated to a pannel named ‘Questions of Constitution and
  had received brutal protests.
Demonstrant students: what's the
motif of protestation?
Protester students: What we suppose to
do? throwing a bar of gold instead of egg?
WHY EGG?: When a political man came to campus they didn’t welcome us inside or else
they shut down our mouths in the beginning of our speech. They never let us to express
ourselves. We have thinked "what we could do" and we didnt do harm. We found egg.

CHARISMA DESTROYER: eggs’ qualities are countless. Eggs do not harm and there is no
violance. Egg are just destroying charisma. Their suits soils. The aesthetic mess up. When
they dont let us to talk we are starting to throwing up egg so «if words finishs eggs
starts»

WE HAD WARNED KUZU: Our friends had declared that they will organise something.
And we asked for Kuzu if we could put a box of egg as a symbol of cri de coeur. But he
told "that's ridiculous of you" so we had warned him and he says énon of my business
with this marouders" And we deciden to act of egg throwing. Everybody was gave
money when we told that we will throw up to Burhan Kuzu. We have bought 120 egg
and we put 2 of egg into our pocket and we have entered easily.

WE WOULD LİKE TO ASK: There was 550 people in the hall. Actually, when he come to
conference hall, we planned to call Kuzu to account "for having hide from public some of
their activities" But whenever he had entered to hall and in the same time 550 students
protested him and they throwing up the eggs and opened affiche.

• University Students who throw up eggs against Supreme Court's
President Haşim Kılıç; Derya Altundağ (21), Tevfik Caner Ertay (19)
and Yakup Çetinkaya (21), “Because of tomatoes are so expensive we

de izleyicilerin bulunduğu yerden ayağa kalkarak Kılıç’a doğru
konuştuğunu anlatan Derya Altundağ şunları söyledi: “Bireysel
haklar hiçbir zaman özgürlük getirmeyecektir. Toplumsal haklar bize
özgürlük getirir. Parasız eğitim, parasız sağlık gibi toplumsal haklar
olmadan özgürleşemeyiz. Öğrenci kolektifi olarak, ‘Üniversitelerimize
gelmeyin.
olabilir. Haşim Kılıç, yargı reformundan bahsederken ayağa kalkarak
İstanbul Üniversitesi’ndeki 18 arkadaşımıza 15 ay hapis cezası
çıktığından bahsettim. Konuşturulmadığımız zaman bir yumurta
