Epiphany is celebrated on January 6th to commemorate the revelation of God as Jesus during his baptism. On this day, a church service is held followed by the blessing of waters, where people participate in driving out demons. Traditionally, the priest throws a cross into the water and people dive in to retrieve it for the priest's blessing for the new year. In the past, children would also sing carols in exchange for sweets or money on Epiphany, as they do on Christmas Eve. Epiphany continues to be celebrated widely in Greece as one of the most important days of the year.
