3. Outsourcing What is the first idea that comes to you when you listen to the word “globalization”? Surely you think about an interconnected society where information and material goods run through different countries without restriction. Or maybe, the image that comes to you is one where people from different places in the planet work together to create a single product. For example, people in India produce hi-tech software that will be sent to people in Tijuana, M. There, blue collar workers will manufacture computers with the Indian software they just received so that, later on, the final product will be sold exclusively into the American market. What is it then with the idea of globalization? And moreover, what is the meaning of outsourcing and offshoring and what are their benefits and their drawbacks? Lesson 4
4. Outsourcing If you noticed from its meaning, the word outsourcing and offshoring imply a job performed by a third party, whether human or an enterprise, that are located in a developing country. In order to reduce costs and overheads, businesses send their operations to them so, at the end, the price to produce the product is reduced up to a 50 per cent whereas the total revenue increases.
