“Human resources” have become a crucial theme for companies. The management of human resources is increasingly becoming a strategic lever and entails a string of activities that have
multiple impacts: enhancement of the value of persons and incentive systems, cost optimization, governance, establishing organisation charts, internal communication, technological platforms
to integrate information, etc. Given the importance of this theme, the “HR Banks and Human Resources” conference has been launched, which, every year, discusses a number of themes such as
the state of the art in the management of human resources in the banking system and the presentation of the current edition of the Report on the labour market and contractual arrangements,
alongside specific themes of particular importance in the year in question.
Target audience
Banks and all the companies for which ABI acts as union representative.

Conference at a glance
In the financial arena security is strategic, increasingly impacts the corporate business and can become decisive in the European competitive scenario. Managing risks, including with an
integrated approach, means responding to a precise and pressing demand from the market, which requires of banks to have an exhaustive and comprehensive vision. The criticalities of
individual branches and the protection of employees, the needs of an increasingly diversified range of external stakeholders and the new threats arisen out of the standardization of payment
systems, the defence of information and continuity of service are just some of the building blocks of this vision. As part of this, banks also have to reconcile a broad range of requirements,
including in terms of protection, disclosure to customers and speed of information and order flows. The right choices in the field of security can make the difference. Being aware of this,
ABI, in collaboration with OSSIF and ABI Lab, organizes “Banks and Security”, the annual conference on Security within banks. It is a unique event in Italy in that the banking sector is
viewed from a privileged angle by those who are institutionally and operationally engaged in it. All this makes this conference an essential benchmark for all the players involved. The market
being increasingly aware of all the issues relating to the protection of corporate assets from accidental and other adverse events (which could affect the human resources, information and
equipment of a company), the objective of the conference is to foster in-depth discussion of methodological and technological aspects so as to support banks in the development of adequate
preventive actions to ensure continuity of services in the most critical situations.

Conference at a glance
There is a continuing trend of sharp decrease in the number of security attacks on banks. This is due to several factors, including considerable investments by banks in systems, procedures
and education of operators, the commitment to set up a system of increasingly tight institutional relations whereby banks and the authorities in charge of protecting public order are
strategically allied to combat crime. The focus on crime is now progressively shifting to other, less protected targets like pharmacies, supermarkets, tobacconists, stores and, in general, all
such activities as require cash management and are open to the public. Also in these areas of business there is a widespread need to raise the prevention standards and view the different
types of crime (robbery, theft, fraud) in terms of sources of risk to be assessed, prevented and reduced with appropriate initiatives. This is the background against which the Security Day has
been designed, with a cross-sectoral focus and spanning banks and non-banking industries alike.

In order to facilitate dialogue and debate regarding the themes of the “New Prudential Supervisory Rules for Banks” (Bank of Italy Circular No. 263/2006, as updated) amongst banking
industry senior executives, the supervisory authority, trade association and persons of note from the worlds of academe, economics and finance, ABI is organizing the Company Control
Functions Forum, within which the Compliance in Banks convention will also be held. Achieving compliance with the new rules requires banks to devote intense effort, within a limited period,
not only focusing on control functions, but also involving the entire company culture in developing and applying the logical and systematic methods for identifying, measuring, communicating
and managing risks. The Bank of Italy has prescribed the gradual introduction of these new rules, and banks will need to achieve compliance with the provisions of the new regulations in
stages, over a period ending in 2016.
The Forum thus represents a platform for interactive, bidirectional dialogue between banks and institutions, aimed at creating a think-tank for the Italian banking industry and becoming a
meeting place for the bank control function community.

Palazzo Altieri is the headquarter of the Italian Bankers’ Association and the main venue for ABI conferences. This marvellous 17th century building, is one of the most famous palaces in Rome.
