We carried out research to determine the social media being actively used (within the last 2 months) using our Social Media Balance Sheet™ of 10 of the FTSE 100 companies chosen at random.

6. Social media uses in this group Those using social media use it for the following: Customer care Recruiting To inform / build brand awareness To gather information / research To hold competitions To provide product demos
7. Conclusions Our initial conclusions as to the social media being used are: Twitter and Facebook are the most popular. Blogging and photo sharing is not popular. Financial services are the lowest users of social media.
8. The Future Over the next 5 years social media tools will change our business models yet these giant corporations are largely ignoring its potential. One of the challenges is that failure to adopt social media may result in others (detractors, campaigners) taking your share of the voice and controlling your message.
