Greetings Thanks for agreeing to help out with this year’s CEPA Maths exam My name is Jim Buckingham.. Following in Robert Bennell’s footsteps.. Robert’s keen to take a bit of a holiday from this position. Before going any further, I’d like to take the time to thank Robert for the tons of leg work he’s done in cueing this task up. I don’t think many of us really realize just how much work goes into this.
What is the CEPA? I won’t bore you with details.. For those doing this for the first time.. It’s a math proficiency test given to all Emirati students interested in attending a post secondary institution like ZU>
Just how many can we expect?
These are the counts that I’ve received .. These should only be used as a guide.
How is this organized? As you can see there are actually 4 versions of the test.. Each to be delivered at a certain time.
Here’s a timetable that we’ve worked out. By now you should have received an email giving you Your role .. Your room assignment Your session details
Please note.. That this is so important.. I’ll be sending you details on how to obtain the video. We hope to be able to put it up somewhere on the network for downloading.
The whole CEPA administration is relatively straightforward.. But if there’s one area that causes any problems its in the tech area. Please ensure that you check and see that your computer and video works no later than NOON on Thursday. This should allow you enough time to get things corrected should there be a need to.
This is the materials sign in/out sheet that all invigilators will be required to complete both before collecting materials .. And after returning materials.
Now on to how things work… I would urge you to review this PowerPoint .. To familiarize yourself with the process. We’ll also support this with a checklist. I hope to circulate this with your materials on the exam day.
Important note.. It is so important that no students be permitted to leave the room .. Once they have entered for reasons that should be fairly obvious… in short .. To discourage any cheating strategies and to not disrupt administration of the test.
Here’s a copy of the form students will come to the test / examination room with. An official form on the left with their name and ID number .. On the top right, a copy of the answer sheet.. Again with their name and ID number.. And a small memo which they collect on registration day to denote which room they’ve been assigned.
Student sign in .. Needed to vouch for the student’s presence for the exam Classroom plan.. Needed to help with anticipating and reporting invigilation problems Question booklets.. These are sealed …. And thus students need to be instructed NOT to open them.
Now’s the moment to show the CD This helps explain the exam process to students. Most of them will have seen this already in their classes. Note again the need for students to sign something .. This time a declaration sheet.. If there are any issues with comprehension.. Please let us know either by contacting the relief invigilator in the hallways or myself via mobile phone.
Pretty straightforward here.
Very important.. To do this Key here is to note irregularities .. But avoid disrupting others taking the test .. Unless it’s absolutely necessary.
Here we note the escalation of the incident..
1 head invigilator has been assigned for each hallway 1 arabic speaker 1 relief invigilator as well
An admin function..
Please note that Students ARE NOT ALLOWED TO LEAVE until all materials have been fully and properly accounted for.
As a tribute to Peter Jakiro who put this original PowerPoint presentation together.. I’ve made a point of ensuring his name and contribution lives on with the inclusion of this slide. Thanks Peter.
That’s it… If these instructions are followed.. It should be a very “good” and “uneventful” CEPA Math day. Thanks advance for your help.
