VERTEBRATES have a skeleton.
INVERTEBRATES don´t have a skeleton.

BORN
VIVIPAROUS
animals are born

OVIPAROUS
animals are born
from eggs.

5. VIVIPAROUS ANIMALS are born live
• They depend on their mothers when they are
babies.
• They drink their mother´s milk.
• Examples: dogs, cats, lions, horses, cows, etc.

6. OVIPAROUS animals are born from eggs
The female animals lay the eggs.
Some oviparous
animals, like
birds, keep their
eggs warm.
Others, like
sardines and
flies, don´t keep
their eggs warm.

7. • Some oviparous animals are independent
when they are born.
• For example, snakes leave their eggs.
The baby snakes move around and find
food.

8. • Other oviparous animals can´t look
after themselves.
• For example, baby sparrows stay with
their parents. The adult birds feed
them and protect them.

9. 3. THE FOOD ANIMALS EAT
Animals are living things, so they need
to eat food.
According to the food they eat, we
can classify animals into three groups:

10. HERBIVORES eat plants.
They eat different parts of plants such as
leaves, roots and fruit.
Herbivores have special teeth to help them cut
and chew plants.

12. CARNIVORES eat other animals
• Carnivores hunt and eat other animals.
They have
sharp teeth.
They have
excellent
eyesight

13. FOXES are carnivores.
They eat mice, rabbits and other animals.

14. OMNIVORES eat both plants
and other animals.
Examples:
Bears, monkeys, pigs…
