3. INTRODUCTION
windows is an operating system produced by Microsoft for use on
personal computer ,including home and business desktop ,laptops
tablets, and home theater PCs.Development of this operating system
started before the release of its predecessor in 2009.Its existance was
first announced in January 2011 at Cosumer Electronic Show.On
August 1,2012, Windows 8 graduated from the development stage
and was released to manufacturing . Windows 8 is slated for general
availability on October 26,2011
Windows 8 introduced significant changes to the operating system
graphical user interface and platform.Windows 8 is the upcoming
version of Microsoft Windows, expected to be released in 2012.
On the Building Windows 8 blog, it was announced that a computer
running Windows 8 can boot up much faster than Windows 7.New
features also include USB 3.0 support, the Windows App Store, the
ability to run from USB drives with Windows To Go, and others.
4. Operating System
An operating system manages computer
resources, such as memory and input/output
devices, and provides an interface through which a
human can interact with the computer
An operating system allows an application program
to interact with these other system resources
The various roles of an operating system generally
revolve around the idea of “sharing nicely”
An operating system manages resources, and
these resources are often shared in one way or
another among programs that want to use them

5. Structure of Operating System
The structure of OS consists of 4 layers:
1. Hardware
Hardware consists of CPU, Main
memory, I/O Devices, etc,
2. Software (Operating System)
Software includes process management
routines, memory management routines,
I/O control routines, file management
routines.
6. Structure of Operating System
3. System programs
This layer consists of compilers, Assemblers,
linker etc.
4. Application programs
This is dependent on users need. Ex. Railway
reservation system, Bank database
management etc.,
7. Windows 8
Microsoft Windows is a series of graphical
interface operating system developed,
marketed, and sold by Microsoft.Microsoft
introduced an operating enviroment named
Windows on November 20, 1985.Microsoft
Windows came to dominate the world's
personal computer market with over 90%
market share. The most recent client version
of Windows is Windows 8. The most recent
server version is Windows is Windows
Server 2012.The most recent mobile version
is Windows is Windows Phone 7.5
9. DEVELOPMENT & PLATFORMS
Windows 8 represents a reimagining of Windows
from the chipset to the experience. Since this is a
week focused on developers, we also detailed
the boldof the re-imagination of he Windows
platform, tools, and APIs We will show the brand
new tools that allow you to code Metro style
applications in HTML5/JavaScript, C/C++, and/or
C#/XAML.
Metro is an internal code name for a typographybased design language created byMicrosoft,
originally for use in Windows Phone 7. Early uses
of the Metro principles, such as the typography,
began as early as Microsoft Windows 8. "Metro"
is based on the design principles of classic Swiss
graphic design.
10. FEATURES OF WINDOWS-8
Startup : The startup or boot is much faster when comparedto all
other previous version of windows OS.
NEW START SCREEN : the start screen is not like the
traditonal windows screen. It has live tiles that update with app info
such as new mail arrivals. news weather ,stock tickers and many
more. There are many default apps that are already in there to
provide you all this.
SYNC : now easily sync with all your computer using Microsoft
account sign in or what is called as Windows Live ID.This feature
syncs personalization preference,Internet Explorer favorites ,
background , Wifi password and more with cloud coonected
accounts.
11. Windows Boot performance
Few days back, we got a new feature of high booting
capability of Windows 8 OS. According to this feature,
Windows 8 fine tuning with start-up process will going to
increase its popularity because many users want fast booting
speed.
Windows file system
Windows 8 provides strong file system support which cannot
allow unauthorized users to make changes in Windows secure
files. As it implements more security for file accessing. A new
feature of "file name collisions will be there in Windows 8 so
as to avoid redundancy of same file in system memory.
12. Windows cloud services
We know that Windows Live essential allows users to store data
online in Windows 7 OS as well but with Windows 8 OS, you
can store bundle of data in Windows Live and even provision is
made, through which you can backup your data online.
Windows 8 that enables enterprise administrators to create USB
drives containing complete, managed Windows images that
users can use to boot and run.
Windows 8 Start Screen – The Start screen is yet another
impressive. The screen basically groups all your applications
together, which you can easily drag and drop, or add new things.
13. Charms
In large part, "charms" is a new implementation of the
traditional Windows start bar. Charms can also be used to
quickly configure settings for individual apps. On an ordinary
non-touch PC, charms are accessed by dragging the mouse to
the bottom-left corner of the screen, to the same spot as the
old Windows start button. On a tablet, you swipe from the
right side of the screen to bring up charms.
Microsoft recently applied for a trademark on charms. The
charms sidebar offers five sets of options, supporting both
app-specific settings and system settings such as volume and
brightness. The options include Start, Search, Share, Devices,
and Settings. The Start option returns the user to the home
screen. The Devices option presents a list of connected
devices. Under the Share option, users can see social network
sharing apps.
14. Snap Multi-tasking
"Snap multitasking" is designed to make it easy to
run two apps in Windows 8 side-by-side, to resize
them, and to switch between them. On the righthand side of the screen, you can snap an app into
place.
You can make an app smaller or larger by
dragging the bar for the app. To switch between
apps in Windows 8, you swipe from the left-hand
part of the screen.
However, Windows 8 does not allow you to view
all of your running apps on a single screen
15. Some more INTRESTING
FEATURES OF WINDOWS-8
UEFI
we all know the BIOS (basic input output System)
from the day we have known Windows .BIOS is
generally used when we mess up with the windows
and not very often. The drawback of BIOS is that it is
not very user freindly.
The Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) is
a replacement for the BIOS. It reduce boot time and
also secure the Pc during the boot time with the
trusted boot feature. UEFI lso allows diagnostics to be
performed on the boot screen over the network.
16. Picture Passwords
If you find entering password to be cumberson and old
style then Windows 8 Professional has get something
new for you called the"Picture PAsswords".
windows 8 utilize a new system that incorprotes picture
and gestures in user authentication.if you are wondering
on how to use the Picture PAsswords, then let me tell you
at first you will need to select an image on which you
want to perform a gesture,The gesture could be tapping
on something in the picture ,encircling something or
drawing a line between two points. A pssword would
then comprise any combination of these three.
17. People app
It is always better to have a comprehensive contact
list or adress book that is accessible wherever you
go.with the people app your contact list viva
popular social and professional fourms like
hotmail,twitter linkedln,gmail and more . the me
page show your own picture and all the update and
notification related to your connected accounts
while the what's new page display all your friends
and all their updates together in one place
18. File Management
The copy mechanism that windows currently uses is
some what no the best not only are the 'copy time '
estimates are erroneous, but even basic feature such as
pausing a transfer are absent. windows 8 rectifier this
and a number of others isues with improvements in ots
file mangement system. I can say taht the copy/move
progress windows has completly cahnged . first of all if
your are running mulitiplefile operations on windows 8
Professional, it consol dates them all into a single
window showing all transfer secodly,individual
operations can be paused or canceled and including the
current speed and a graph of how that speed has changed
over time.
19. Remove feature of Windows 8
The started menu has been removed in favor of a full
screen interface called the start screen.
The aero Glass theme which has been featured in a
windows vista and windows 7 has been removed from
the windows 8 in favor of a Metro-style theme.
Microsoft Gadgets which has been featured in a
windows vista and windows 7 has been removed from
the windows 8 in favor of a Metro-style theme.
The command bar is no longer present, and has been
replaced by a new ribbon.
20. Remove feature of Windows 8
Windows Media Center will no longer be
included be deafult in any version of
Windows 8.
The blue screen of Death will no longer
show as much technical information about
the error that caused the computer to stop.
The Parental controls features present in
earlier version of Windows has been
removed and replaced by the Family Safety
feature.
21. WEEKNESS OF WINDOWS -8
OS
1.
Very difficult to move between screens
Metro Switching between applications is a very difficult thing to do. You are
not given functions such as Alt-Tab while working with the desktop and the
keyboard to switch from one app to another app. Instead, in Windows 9 Metro
could could use a pointer or finder. Put on the left side of the screen and drag.
Or click on the icon that appears.
2.
Metro multitasking = 2 application only
If you use a Metro application (for tablets) in Windows 8, multitasking means
the screen will display two applications in a row. That's it. For beginners it
would not be a big problem. However for the advanced user, multitasking
capabilities with Metro for only two applications is a fatal weakness.
3.
There is no option to turn tiles into icons
The smallest size is still too large tiles appearance. When will you have to
install many applications will show screen Metro.
22. Featured Research
Windows 8 is now available, but most organizations are still
deploying Windows 7 and working to eliminate Windows XP
by the time support ends in April 2014. Organizations need to
decide how much time to spend on Windows 8, and which
users to target with the new OS.
Windows 8 will be well-received by users with tablets,
convertibles, hybrids and other devices with good touch
support.
Windows 8 tablets can offer the IT organization enterprise
manageability; however, the shift is likely to require
additional investment in training, application porting and tool
upgrades. Windows 8 includes new features, including native
USB 3.0 and full 4K Advanced Format support, Microsoft
account integration, Windows Store, the ability to boot from
USB Flash drives with Windows To Go, and easier system
restore options, among others.
23. CONCLUSION:Windows 8 give strong competition to mobile computing,
especially the tablet market OS such as Apple OS and
Android. So far it has been quite successful and has got the
rival developers moving with new ideas. Windows 8
provides great experience on large screens and is a wonder
for palm sized smart phones.
The desktop computers are quite powerful and have
fetched wonderful speeds and have witnessed quite a
number of futuristic apps already. The Start screen is more
innovative and the start menu is definitely totally different
than that in previous versions which might not be cheered
by all Windows enthusiasts. We can hope that other hidden
features of zooming and multimedia control get
popularized after the launch.
