2. FAVL’s own story began with one small library, in one small town in Burkina Faso.
3. FAVL Libraries
Ever since that first seed was planted, we’ve been helping it grow by partnering
with other communities in Africa, and with supporters around the world.
4. FAVL aims to help develop a culture of reading.
That starts to happen when people begin to
read for pleasure as well as for purpose.
5. FAVL librarians are from the communities they serve. They get training and
support, and are encouraged to look for ways to make their libraries better.
6. FAVL libraries need to keep adding
books to lure in the new readers,
motivate the reluctant readers,
and satisfy the eager readers.
7. At the very popular FAVL summer reading camps, children have many creative
opportunities to sharpen their skills in reading, writing, and public speaking.
8. If libraries give children good memories to take away,
they’ll be returning with their own children one day.
