2. FADE IN:
(Voice over)
“The year is 2068. After WWIII in 2024 the world changed
forever. The war lasted for 4 years and what came after
it was a new world with new compositions of power.
On one side the Western Alliance was formed, consisting
of Western countries and a few dozen allies they have
persuaded to their cause.
On the other side, the Old World Federation was born. The
Old World Federation, which consists of 148 federal
states, have declared that they fully own their resources
and will trade fairly with those who respect the
sovereignty of the individual states.
The Western Alliance finds this unacceptable and a breach
of international laws.
There are currently 21 countries that have declared
neutrality.
An unspoken war is currently being fought between the
Western Alliance and the Old World Federation.”
3. FADE IN:
INT. HOUSE OF ARRAWEELO. HALLWAY. KITCHEN. BEDROOM.
LIVINGROOM - DAY
Certain objects will be shown up close in this scene to
set the mood of the world. The radio in the living room
will broadcast a discussion between commentators of the
Western Alliance.
SPEAKER 1
We can no longer idly sit by and let these savages
destroy our economy. Don’t they have any shame? Last week
our port in Singapore was attacked by the Decolonized
Troops. 49 people died.
SPEAKER 2
Now, now, we can’t say for sure it was them. They have
not taken responsibility for the attack. We need to stay
calm and take diplomatic steps for their federal states
to join our side…for the good of their people and us.
SPEAKER 1
The Kinshasa talks have led to nothing. Absolutely
nothing. Their demands are simply unacceptable. And they
have already doubled their military spending in 5 years.
This is a provocation.
Ha, they have signed the Kinshasa Convention on
Diplomatic Relations and yet the Danish ambassador is
held prisoner by the Old World Federation.
SPEAKER 2
Well, you know the Danish ambassador was caught spying on
Brazil. They will release him once we show some good
will. I don’t believe they are that unreasonable.
SPEAKER 1
You are fantasizing about diplomacy and our people can
barely afford bread, while they only get richer.
Something radical has to happen soon or else we will
become irrelevant.
SPEAKER 2
Something radical? Such as another war?
SPEAKER 1
If there are no other alternatives we must stop them
before they take over. This is the survival of the
fittest. This is about the survival of our people and no
liberal can make me feel guilty about that.
4. DISSOLVE TO:
EXT. PLAYGROUND - DAY
Kids are playing at a playground. Arraweelo sits at a
bench with her coffee cup waiting for Ayaan to show up.
ARRAWEELO, a beautiful Somali lawyer in her mid 20’s who
secretly works for the Old World Federation.
AYAAN, Arraweelo’s strict Somali recruiter for the Old
World Federation who is in her late 20’s.
ARRAWEELO
You’re late.
AYAAN
I thought I was being followed. I was extra careful.
ARRAWEELO
These kids…they remind me of innocence. They have no idea
what’s happening, do they?
AYAAN
Why are you talking about kids? Have you done what I’ve
asked you to do?
ARRAWEELO
You don’t have to be so rude, you know? Here you go.
Arraweelo hands Ayaan a data disk.
AYAAN (laughs)
We are not friends. Don’t ever forget that. You know why
I recruited you.
ARRAWEELO
I’m not asking for a friend. I just don’t think a
friendly conversation is too much to ask.
AYAAN
What you just gave me will help us during the talks with
the Western Alliance. This data disk contains information
that will help us listen to the Kinshasa talks without
being caught. You should be proud. The Freedom
Intelligence Unit will be proud.
ARRAWEELO
I’m proud…,it’s just that… (Arraweelo looks down)
AYAAN(Ayaan asks loudly)
Just what? (MORE)
5. ARRAWEELO (CONT’D)
Never mind. When is my next assignment?
AYAAN
Don’t be eager for assignments. Assimilate and learn from
them. Speaking of assimilation, why are you still wearing
a hijab? I’ve told you, you must assimilate to their
culture or they will become suspicious of you. They might
hurt you.
ARRAWEELO
I don’t want to forget who I am. This is who I am and who
I love to be. It makes me feel whole and reminds me of my
purpose in life. Why should I give myself up for those
who secretly hate me?
AYAAN
Your purpose in life may be for God, but when you are
outside of your house, your purpose is with the Old World
Federation in secret and with them in public. Once the
decolonizing process of this world is done, you can
proudly wear it. I’m only warning you for your safety.
The Western Alliance is a hypocritical place.
ARRAWEELO
I know. Thank you. You have taught me so much. Can I
think about it?
AYAAN
Of course. I will contact you as soon as the Freedom
Intelligence Unit needs you.
ARRAWEELO
Before you go, I’d like to know…the attack on
Singapore…was that us?
AYAAN
No. We don’t attack without a reason. We don’t attack
innocent people. This was the Western Alliance. They are
trying to use false flag attacks to legitimize an all out
war against us. They sacrifice their own for their evil
purposes.
I must go now. Goodbye.
As Ayaan stands up, Arraweelo quickly holds Ayaan’s arm
and says: May the world decolonize and prosper.
AYAAN
May the world decolonize and prosper. (MORE)
6. Arraweelo waits a few seconds and then leaves to go home.
DISSOLVE TO:
INT. HOUSE OF ARRAWEELO. HALLWAY. BEDROOM – NIGHT
Arraweelo comes home tired and puts her keys on the table
in the hallway. She puts her coat on the coat rack and
puts her shoes off. She then goes to her room and turns
on some Somali music on the gramophone. She stares at
herself in the mirror and touches her bracelet that has a
camel on it.
ARRAWEELO
Who am I?
Arraweelo puts frankincense on her palms, neck and
temples and smells it. She then dances along with the
music and loses herself in it while smiling.
DISSOLVE TO:
THE BEDROOM DOOR
SAMATAR, a 16 year-old bright kid. He’s the brother of
Arraweelo and is a curious boy.
SAMATAR
Arraweelo, what are you doing?
Arraweelo’s startled and composes herself.
ARRAWEELO
Nothing.
SAMATAR
Well it sure didn’t look like nothing. If anyone else
heard that music we would be fined or thrown into jail.
ARRAWEELO
I know. Now go make the table ready. We’re about to have
dinner.
DISSOLVE TO:
DINNER ROOM
MARYAN, a 19-year-old student at the London Western
Alliance Institute of Engineering. She’s Arraweelo’s
sister and is a strong confident girl who’s very
outspoken. (MORE)
7. ARRAWEELO (CONT’D)
I’ve heated the food. I hope you like it.
MARYAN
Porich. Again?
ARRAWEELO
Yes and this time with bread and pieces of banana. I’m
sorry, that’s all we can afford now since much of the
food has been rationed. Eat.
Maryan eats with a disgusting look at her face, while
Samatar eats it happily without complaining.
ARRAWEELO
So how was your day? How’s school?
MARYAN
I’m top in my class and one of my teachers doesn’t give
me any credit because according to him ‘I’m from the Old
World Federation’. I was born here. What more can I do?
ARRAWEELO
Never mind that teacher. Once you graduate I’m sure
you’ll find a suitable career. And he will stay a bitter
old man. What did I teach you?
MARYAN AND SAMATAR
Never legitimize the opinion of the oppressor.
ARRAWEELO
That’s what I want to hear. But never say this out loud.
No one can ever know that you feel any contempt for the
Western Alliance. You don’t want them to send you to a
labour camp, do you?
Maryan and Samatar both look down, scared of the thought
of being sent to a labour camp.
ARRAWEELO
Samatar, how was your day?
SAMATAR
I saw a woman being dragged in an Order Enforcement van
today. She was old and they hit her regardless with their
sticks. Will that happen to us one day?
ARRAWEELO
No of course not Samatar. If we behave accordingly, this
won’t ever happen to us. Mom and dad made the choice to
stay for a reason. (MORE)
8. MARYAN (CONT’D)
And look where they are now. Dead.
ARRAWEELO
We don’t know that. Don’t ever say that again Maryan.
MARYAN
You told me yesterday you’d be working late, but when I
called your office, they told me you left early. Where
did you go?
ARRAWEELO
I was meeting a friend.
MARYAN
Which friend?
ARRAWEELO
Is this an interrogation?
MARYAN
No it isn’t, but you’re suspicious for dodging my
questions.
SAMATAR
Maryan has a boyfriend.
MARYAN
Shut up, you asshole.
ARRAWEELO
Invite him to our house one time. I’d love to meet him.
MARYAN
You’re not angry?
ARRAWEELO
Of course not. Love is a beautiful thing. I’m happy for
you. What’s his name?
MARYAN
Well it’s not exactly love yet. I just like him. His name
is Jacob.
ARRAWEELO
Well invite him for dinner some time. I’ll try to prepare
better dinner than porich.
MARYAN
You’re alright sis. (MORE)
9. Maryan smiles and then finishes her dinner in a better
mood.
The phone rings and Arraweelo picks up.
UNKNOWN CALLER
Your car is ready. You are expected at 2 p.m. tomorrow.
MARYAN
Who is it? Is it Jacob?
ARRAWEELO
No it’s no one. Someone dialled a wrong number.
Arraweelo looks outside of the window and sees a man
smoking while looking her way. He suddenly throws away
his cigarette and leaves. She puts the phone down and
sighs deeply. She then turns to Maryan and Samatar.
ARRAWEELO
Who’s up for a banana milk shake?
