The measure we use to judge others is the measure by which we will be judged. So will we be judgmental, condemning, unforgiving, and stingy, or will we be magnanimous with others, like the Lord Jesus Christ is?
The message was given on Sept 29, 2013 at New City Church in Calgary by Pastor John Ferguson. For more info, go to www.NewCityChurch.ca.
5. “Why not? Why not...? The
thing is, if you just do stuff
and nothing happens,
what’s it all mean? What’s
the point? All right, this
whole thing is about self-
acceptance... So I should
stop judging and accept....
Jesse Pinkman

6. “...So no matter what I
do, Hooray for me,
because I’m a great
guy? It’s all good. No
matter how many dogs I
kill — what, I do an
inventory, and accept?” Jesse Pinkman

“If there’s a larger
lesson to Breaking Bad,
it’s that actions have
consequences…I feel
some sort of need for
biblical atonement, or
justice, or something….
I want to believe there’s
a heaven. But I can’t
not believe there’s a
hell.”

8. ~ Luke 6:37 (37- 42)
The Most
MISUNDERSTOOD
Verse in the Bible
9. Context: Luke 6
“But I say to you who hear, Love your
enemies, do good to those who hate you,
bless those who curse you, pray for
those who abuse you... and your reward
will be great, and you will be sons of the
Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful
and evil. Be merciful, even as your
Father is merciful.”
10. Judge not, and you will not be
Luke 6:37
judged; condemn not, and you will
not be condemned; forgive, and
you will be forgiven....
11. “When he tells us
not to judge, he is
telling us not to
treat people unfairly
or unjustly in the
court of our own
opinion. In a word,
we must not be
judgmental.”
12. ...give, and it will be given to you.
Luke 6:38
Good measure, pressed down,
shaken together, running over, will
be put into your lap. For the
measure you use it will be
measured back to you....
14. He also told them a parable: “Can a
Luke 6:39-40
blind man lead a blind man? Will
they not both fall into a pit? A
disciple is not above his teacher,
but everyone when he is fully trained
will be like his teacher....
15. Why do you see the speck that is in
Luke 6:41-42
your brother’s eye, but do not notice
the log that is in your own eye?
How can you say to your brother,
‘Brother, let me take out the speck
that is in your eye,’ when you
17. ...yourself do not see the log that is
Luke 6:42
in your own eye. You hypocrite, first
take the log out of your own eye,
then you will see clearly to take out
the speck that is in your brother’s
eye....”
18. The measure we use
to judge others is
the measure by which
we will be judged.
25. “Resolved, to act, in all
respects, both speaking
and doing, as if nobody
had been so vile as I,
and as if I had
committed the same
sins, or had the same
infirmities or failings as
others...;
~ Jonathan Edwards
“Resolutions”
26. “...and that I will let the
knowledge of their
failings promote nothing
but shame in myself,
and prove only an
occasion of my
confessing my own sins
and misery to God.”
~ Jonathan Edwards
“Resolutions”
28. “...The thing that keeps
me on my knees is the
difference between Grace
and Karma.... At the
center of all religions is
the idea of Karma. You
know, what you put out
comes back to you.... And
yet, along comes this
idea called Grace to
upend all that. . . .
Bono of “U2”
29. “... I’d be in big trouble if
Karma was going to finally
be my judge... It doesn’t
excuse my mistakes, but
I’m holding out for Grace.
I’m holding out that Jesus
took my sins onto the
Cross, because I know
who I am, and I hope I
don’t have to depend on
my own religiosity.”
