1. The Home Depot And Its Customers Donate $1 Million To THE USO
Proceeds Raised in Gift Card Program Will Support Services for Military Families
ATLANTA, March 29, 2007 - The Home Depotยฎ will present a $1 million donation to the United Service Organizationsยฎ (USOยฎ)
in a presentation today in Atlanta. The donation will be used for the construction of new USO centers and the ongoing
maintenance and capital upkeep of existing facilities.
Proceeds were raised from redeemed gift card sales in The Home Depot stores in January, as part of a holiday gift card
promotion. In December 2006, as part of its ongoing support of the USO and military families, The Home Depot announced a
holiday gift card campaign to benefit USO centers throughout the United States. The Company pledged 5 percent of all The
Home Depot redeemed gift card sales, up to $1 million, for January 1-28, 2007.
"We thank The Home Depot and its customers for their steadfast support of the USO," said Edward A. Powell, USO president
and CEO. "This donation will help the USO continue to offer its programs to service members and their families."
Of this donation, $400,000 will go toward the expansion and renovation of USO Delaware, Inc. at Dover Air Force Base;
$135,000 will go to the construction of the Rocky Mountain USO center at Fort Carson, Colo.; and $465,000 will support the
construction, ongoing maintenance and capital upkeep of USO centers throughout the United States.
"The Home Depot is dedicated to supporting our men and women in uniform, and their families," said Kevin Martinez, vice
president of Community Affairs, The Home Depot. "Today's donation is on behalf of our customers, who showed their support
to the USO by participating in the January gift card program."
In 2005, The Home Depot awarded the USO a $250,000 grant. This donation funded renovation projects for eight USO
centers, and supported USO programs and services. In addition, the Company has consistently been recognized by G.I. Jobs
magazine as a top employer for military personnel.
