Need: Arrow, 3 pictures. Talk about how conventional techniques are outdated. What will we unlearn today?
Question- When should you use these templates? Answer: When you want to make someone go blind
The first on is the simplest but oldest one needs a good background picture and nice looking placeholders. But this is an ugly version
You can make your pictures relevant and interesting. Some pictures are noisy- they have a lot going on in the background…these should be avoided- but if needed, you can change the transparency of the placeholders
You can play with the brightness and contrast for different slide layouts
This is when you like a lot of white space, or if you think your audience might not be too comfortable with background pictures
The easiest way is to make sure you pick pictures with a white background…otherwise the outlines of the pictures will show…you can use the picture as a border in all slides
Or use icon pictures on every slide…you can also alternate it by using a border for title slides and picture icons on normal layout slides
This is the most time efficient design because you can use the same design over and over again…its not specific to one theme
Now that we know how to create our own slide design, apply this knowledge
Everyone makes three presentation files. Shows everyone. Everyone votes for one person other than himself. Title slide and body slide
Let’s open a presentation- Using Master Slide > Design to Theme Create a slide theme for title slide and content slide
Colours have so much importance in our life
Same goes for slides…shouldn’t over do it
Or make them really boring
You should use these for title slides or ones that aim to shock
Use these for general body text
Example of good slide. Text to stand out
Examples of some nice themes
You can always use colours to create themes!
Other good combinations can be found on this link
Watch the video to see
After colours- fonts
This doesn’t mean not to use them at all…but only where appropraite and not throughout the presentation
Lilke everything else, your presentation also needs to have structure
Explain the structure in general- what could be a possible structure for disciminaiton? Use flipchart. Explain one possible structure
Structuring your presentation resource- mentoring document Ask them to read through it- give 5 minutes Need to identify title of presentation Identify Sections Identify appropriate ending Use the presentation in the same folder Make it in Outline view
Here’s an example of how you can structure the document
Now lets add life to the outline- how would you imagine mentoring opening slide?
What would you use as an opening slide?
Now that we know how to create our own slide design, we know how to choose colours and fonts, we know how to structure a presentation…lets apply this knowledge to give our presentation life! Make a title slide, agenda slide and closing slide using the mentoring document.
Example of opening slide 1
Example of opening slide 2
Example of agenda slide
Example of closign slide
Just as there is a difference between powerpoint and micrsoft, there is also a difference between a bppk page and a slide
Otherwise it results in what is commonly known as
Rule 1: Make sure there is a lot of white space on your slides
Rule 2: Minimize bullets
The three tools
Keeping in mind the two rules and three tools lets apply this
Ask to convert into a slide
Example post conversion
Sometimes a common complaint is that if I use too much white space and one point per slide- it would make my presentation very long. Its ok. The number of slides dont matter. What matters is can you manage to go through it in time. If there is one idea per slide, it will take you less time per slide rather than readign out a slide of text. People will keep interested too!
Example of Imagery- this is a summary of 9 key L&D activates held during the year
Example of charts used to lessen text
Example of tables but too many can kill you!
Tea break- anyone want to try this? Esp if someone does not know how to convert table to chart
Solution
