10 years on: the use of RFID technology in libraries

      Developments, experiences, initiatives and goals
in the context of german libraries as RFID-user

                                                                          Frank Seeliger
World Library and Information Congress : 77th IFLA General Conference and Assembly
17th August 2011, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Wednesday 13.45 till 15.45, Session 186 in Room 104
What makes internet of things so important to the IFLA ?

How many issuing companies offer here in
our exhibition hall RFID solutions on their
                             booths?
                                          Further reasons:
Today, I estimate that we have
                                          ca. 4.000 libraries worldwide
                                          working with RFID.

Can RFID help us to mobilize
                                  information pinpoint (space-
                                  related)?

We are privileged to
be here, means our
duty to the
interested non-
participants.
RFID on the surface didn’t seem the sexiest of topics ... but it turned
out to be one of the interesting ones. Richard Wallis

The library as learning and study center, a place to work!
British Library predicts
                               switch to digital by 2020

Lynne Brindley (CEO, British Library, 2005)
„Most people are aware that a national switch to
digital broadcasting is expected by the end of this
decade. Less well known is the fact that a similar
trend is underway in the world of publishing: by the
year 2020, 40% of UK research monographs will be
available in electronic format only, while a further 50%
will be produced in both print and digital. A mere 10%
of new titles will be available in print alone by 2020. „
British Library predicts
                           switch to digital by 2020

                                British Library’s 2020 Vision

We estimate that by 2020, 75%
of all titles worldwide will be
                                published in digital form only,
or in both digital and print.
