   Social Calm
   Purpose: We want to help people to feel better through smiling
   together. Emotions like smiling are socially contagious!1


       Spreading smiles                        in social circles

   User Description
     Students are often busy… and probably forget to smile.
      18 - 24 YO. Smart phone users. Techies.

     How might we trigger more smiles and an open attitude for smiling?

     Two variations:
        Group smiling (triggered smiles)
        Group smiling game (fun + frisky smiles)

   Storyboard
     Trigger: Get a smiling picture on Beluga (Text or App). Smile back.

      Get:

     Fun + frisky: Get a challenge smiling picture + exaggerate it. E.g. Bond.

   Functionality
     Trigger: Get smile via Beluga (group messaging)

     Behavior: Smile at smiling picture. Take picture of
      self. Spread smile.

     Intervention is very simple: Beluga can use either
      text or an application.

     Effect: (see following slide)

Social Calm: Spread Smiles, Look Good, Feel Good

  • 2. 2 Social Calm Purpose: We want to help people to feel better through smiling together. Emotions like smiling are socially contagious!1 Spreading smiles in social circles + SocialCalm: Conceptual Design
  • 3. 3 User Description   Students are often busy… and probably forget to smile. 18 - 24 YO. Smart phone users. Techies.   How might we trigger more smiles and an open attitude for smiling?   Two variations:   Group smiling (triggered smiles)   Group smiling game (fun + frisky smiles) SocialCalm: Conceptual Design
  • 4. 4 Storyboard   Trigger: Get a smiling picture on Beluga (Text or App). Smile back. Get: Send: Get: Get:   Fun + frisky: Get a challenge smiling picture + exaggerate it. E.g. Bond. Get: Send: Get: Get: SocialCalm: Conceptual Design
  • 5. 5 Functionality   Trigger: Get smile via Beluga (group messaging)   Behavior: Smile at smiling picture. Take picture of self. Spread smile.   Intervention is very simple: Beluga can use either text or an application.   Effect: (see following slide) SocialCalm: Conceptual Design
