Linville Caverns
Alligator There was a giant formation that had the appearance of an alligator.  There are over 100 names for this formation.
Interesting  facts and history. Linville Caverns was first  discovered by two local fisherman. Linville Caverns is open seven days a week. It is inside of the humpback mountains. It is open for public touring.  Linville Caverns  was first discovered in 1822.  Bat’s hibernate  in the caverns.  They still remain active  making new  formations all the time.  This cavern is the only cavern in North Carolina.  It is a very beautiful place.
In the early spring you make may get to see the Pipistrelle bat.
Could Be Tragedy There were two teenagers that went to Linville Caverns and didn’t tell anyone where they were going. They brought a lantern and they decided to let the clumsy one carry it.  He dropped it into the water and they couldn’t even see their hand in front of their face.  They decided to follow the water.  It took them two days to get out.  Luckily they didn’t die.
Cavern Formations      There are many stalactites and stalagmites in the caverns.  They are formed from water dropping filled with sediment that solidifies where it hits.  They are very colorful… green and orange with a slimy appearance.  It feels slimy to the touch.
Gas mileage We need to drive 50 miles to get to Linville Caverns.  It will cost us 10 dollars to pay for gas.
