2. History of Kill Devil Hills One of the main reasons Kitty Hawk is famous is because of the Wright Brothers. There most recent glider was created in 1902.When the Wrights first came to the banks, Kitty Hawk was a primary settlement on the northern end of the barrier island. The Wrights lived in a village with local postmaster Bill Tate while testing there craft. In fact, they built their first glider in the front yard of a local residents home. The town of Kill Devil Hills got named that because shipwrecks were very common near that area at that time.

4. Fast Facts The last glider made by the Wright Brothers led directly to the design of the flyer. The Wright Brothers were not the first people to fly a plane.
