In this talk, we would like to share our experience connected with building and scaling our real-time data processing infrastructure at RTB House to buy advertising space effectively. We had a pleasure to present our solution during Big Data Tech Warsaw 2017. This time we would like to explain how we managed to scale it ten times in last two years, to provide full multi-dc architecture with data synchronization between DCs and merging streams of events but also to improve and rewrite all our processing components. Additionally we would like to present our Kafka Workers lib which we decided to open-source and which gives some features we really needed: higher level of distribution, tighter control of offsets commits, possibility to pause and resume processing for given partition, asynchronous processing and backpressure mechanism.

Our platform, which purchases and runs advertisements in the Real-Time Bidding model, processes 250K bid requests and generates 20K events per every second which gives 3TB data every day. Because of machine learning, system monitoring and financial settlements we need to filter, store, aggregate and join these events together. As a result processed events and aggregated statistics are available in Hadoop, Google BigQuery and Postgres. The most demanding are business requirements such as: events that should be joined together can appear 30 days after each other, we are not allowed to create any duplicates, we have to minimalize possible data losses as well as there could not be any differences between generated data outputs. We have designed and implemented the solution which has reduced delay of availability of this data from 1 day to 15 seconds. We will preent: Our first approach to the problem (end-of-day batch jobs) and final solution (real-time stream processing) 2. detailed description of the current architecture 3. how we had tested new data flow before it was deployed and in which way it is being monitored now 4. our one-click deployment process 5. decisions which we made with its advantages and disadvantages and our future plans to improve our current solution. We would like to share our experience connected with scaling solution over clusters of computers in several data centers. We will focus on the current architecture but also on testing and monitoring issues with our deployment process. Finally, we would like to provide an overview of engaged projects like Kafka, Mirrormaker, Storm, Aerospike, Flume, Docker etc. We will describe what we have achieved from given open source and some problems we have come across.

Scaling a data-tier requires multiple concurrent database connections that are all vying for read and write access of the same data. In order to cater to this complex demand, PostgreSQL implements a concurrency method known as Multi Version Concurrency Control, or MVCC. By understating MVCC, you will be able to take advantage of advanced features such as transactional memory, atomic data isolation, and point in time consistent views. This presentation will show you how MVCC works in both a theoretical and practical level. Furthermore, you will learn how to optimize common tasks such as database writes, vacuuming, and index maintenance. Afterwards, you will have a fundamental understanding on how PostgreSQL operates on your data. Key points discussed: * MVCC; what is really happening when I write data. * Vacuuming; why it is needed and what is really going on. * Transactions; much more then just an undo button. * Isolation levels; seeing only the data you want to see. * Locking; ensure writes happen in the order you choose. * Cursors; how to stream chronologically correct data more efficiency. SQL examples given during the presentation are available here: http://www.reactive.io/academy/presentations/postgresql/mvcc/mvcc-examples.zip

Since more than 15 years we have been very happy to work with JCAPS and its predecessors. When Oracle announced to cease support for the platform, we created a task force with the mission to assess which platform provides the best assets to become a true successor for JCAPS. We finally selected WSO2 which is a great, stable, flexible and performing SOA platform. Our experience confirmed it to be the best fit for successful migration projects. We have written a complete set of migration tools for JCAPS (5.x) and eGate (4.x) to WSO2 ESB. This helps really to speed up the migration and keeping the quality and even improve the performance.

KSQL is a stream processing SQL engine, which allows stream processing on top of Apache Kafka. KSQL is based on Kafka Stream and provides capabilities for consuming messages from Kafka, analysing these messages in near-realtime with a SQL like language and produce results again to a Kafka topic. By that, no single line of Java code has to be written and you can reuse your SQL knowhow. This lowers the bar for starting with stream processing significantly. KSQL offers powerful capabilities of stream processing, such as joins, aggregations, time windows and support for event time. In this talk I will present how KSQL integrates with the Kafka ecosystem and demonstrate how easy it is to implement a solution using KSQL for most part. This will be done in a live demo on a fictitious IoT sample.

GeoServer is the start of a great open source success story. This talk introduces the core GeoServer application and explores the ecosystem that has developed around this beloved OSGeo application. This talks draws on the GeoServer ecosystem for use-cases and examples of how the application has been used successfully by a wide range of organizations. Andrea Amie from GeoSolutions is on hand to share success stories highlighting GeoServer use in managing vulnerable ecosystems, agriculture information management, and marine data management. Jody Garnett will look at how GeoServer enables Boundless products including Boundless Server and Boundless Server Enterprise. We will look at GeoServer use at OSGeo with both GeoNetwork and GeoNode making use of the technology. LocationTech is not ignored with the “big data” players in the form of GeoMesa and GeoWave bridging to cloud data sources of epic proportion We use each use-case to highlights a capability of GeoServer providing an overview of the application drawn from practical examples. Attend this talk for inspiration on what is possible with GeoServer and open source.

Presentation to ESA Big Data From Space (BiDS2014), November 2014. Big data from space requires processing large amounts of data in a distributed environment. For efficient, quality and cost-effective deployment, these environments must be based on open standards. The Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) open standards for geospatial-temporal information have been tuned through implementations to meet the needs of big data.

Toulouse, France - 2013.05.30 Centre de Compétences Techniques "Cloud Computing et Big Data" WPS is an OGC standard which defines interfaces to publish, describe and execute geospatial processes The Orfeo Toolbox (OTB - http://www.orfeo-toolbox.org/) is an Open Source Remote Sensing Image Processing software library developed by CNES. The aim of the toolbox is to gather a large number of state of the art algo- rithms for building processing chains for satellite images. Using the constellation server (http://www.constellation-sdi.org/), we exposed the main OTB processing chains as Web Processing Services (WPS). The WPS provides rules for standardizing inputs and outputs for invoking geospatial processing services. These services are managed from a web browser using the mapshup web client (http://mapshup.info). mapshup supports both synchronous and asynchronous processes and offers direct visualisation of results. The whole system provides user a complete and comprehensive image processing chain to produce land cover classification from satellite orthoimagery. With an update to WPS 2.0, this chain should fit well to a Cloud architecture

Webinar Recording: https://www.panagenda.com/webinars/why-teams-call-analytics-is-critical-to-your-entire-business Nothing is as frustrating and noticeable as being in an important call and being unable to see or hear the other person. Not surprising then, that issues with Teams calls are among the most common problems users call their helpdesk for. Having in depth insight into everything relevant going on at the user’s device, local network, ISP and Microsoft itself during the call is crucial for good Microsoft Teams Call quality support. To ensure a quick and adequate solution and to ensure your users get the most out of their Microsoft 365. But did you know that ‘bad calls’ are also an excellent indicator of other problems arising? Precisely because it is so noticeable!? Like the canary in the mine, bad calls can be early indicators of problems. Problems that might otherwise not have been noticed for a while but can have a big impact on productivity and satisfaction. Join this session by Christoph Adler to learn how true Microsoft Teams call quality analytics helped other organizations troubleshoot bad calls and identify and fix problems that impacted Teams calls or the use of Microsoft365 in general. See what it can do to keep your users happy and productive! In this session we will cover - Why CQD data alone is not enough to troubleshoot call problems - The importance of attributing call problems to the right call participant - What call quality analytics can do to help you quickly find, fix-, and prevent problems - Why having retrospective detailed insights matters - Real life examples of how others have used Microsoft Teams call quality monitoring to problem shoot problems with their ISP, network, device health and more.

Tracing the root cause of a performance issue requires a lot of patience, experience, and focus. It’s so hard that we sometimes attempt to guess by trying out tentative fixes, but that usually results in frustration, messy code, and a considerable waste of time and money. This talk explains how to correctly zoom in on a performance bottleneck using three levels of profiling: distributed tracing, metrics, and method profiling. After we learn to read the JVM profiler output as a flame graph, we explore a series of bottlenecks typical for backend systems, like connection/thread pool starvation, invisible aspects, blocking code, hot CPU methods, lock contention, and Virtual Thread pinning, and we learn to trace them even if they occur in library code you are not familiar with. Attend this talk and prepare for the performance issues that will eventually hit any successful system. About authorWith two decades of experience, Victor is a Java Champion working as a trainer for top companies in Europe. Five thousands developers in 120 companies attended his workshops, so he gets to debate every week the challenges that various projects struggle with. In return, Victor summarizes key points from these workshops in conference talks and online meetups for the European Software Crafters, the world’s largest developer community around architecture, refactoring, and testing. Corporate and higher education. Two industries that, in the past, have had a clear divide with very little crossover. The difference in goals, learning styles and objectives paved the way for differing learning technologies platforms to evolve. Now, those stark lines are blurring as both sides are discovering they have content that’s relevant to the other. Join Tammy Rutherford as she walks through the pros and cons of corporate and higher ed collaborating. And the challenges of these different technology platforms working together for a brighter future.
