In light of the California State Budget Crisis, California schools have taken a major hit. The 2010-2001 budget shows budget cuts upwards of $21 billion. Schools and children, kindergarten aged through grade 12 are being affected everywhere in California and many other states as well.<br />Locally, in Newport Coast, CA, Newport Coast Elementary has been similarly affected, with 7 teachers receiving pink slips, as well as several TOSA’s or Teachers on Special Assignment losing their jobs in the 2010-2011 school years. The Science, Music, Physical Education and Technology Departments have all been affected as well and our children are suffering and paying the price for this.<br />Companies such as Genesis Capital are seeing this struggle and offering their help. With donations from Genesis and others, Newport Coast Elementary is seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Schools, now more than ever need assistance with funding. This goodwill has allowed for some re-hiring of a few of teachers for this school year and also allowed for some of the Teachers on Special Assignment to retain their jobs. <br />Furthermore, Newport Coast Elementary even has a new announcement. With donations such as the one from Genesis Capital and based upon the recommendation of the Newport Coast teacher technology committee, the NCE Education Foundation approved a technology budget of more than $91,000. This will include an upgrade and expansion of the Library Lab, adding 35 new iMac computers to accommodate the upper and lower grade classrooms. The existing computers from the lab will be moved to classrooms to serve as student computers. The donations further support our teacher and their work stations. Each teacher workstation will include a computer, document camera and and LCD Projector. These tools will directly benefit our children by giving our teachers the provision of excellent instruction in the classroom.<br />This is only the start. Our California State Education Budget is in complete disarray. The children are the victims here. They are also our future. The need for funds for Newport Coast Elementary and other schools is at an astounding high.
