• Hurricane Katrina was first a very low pressure weather
system, which then turned to become a tropical storm
and eventually a hurricane
• Katrina’s top wind speed was 200 km/h
• 1,836 people died in Hurricane Katrina’s destructive
winds
• Katrina was initially formed over the Bahamas
• For a Blizzard to start, the temperature has to be -12 C
• A blizzard is a very strong snow storm that has very high
wind speeds
• A blizzard is formed by cold air, lots of moisture and
warm air must rise over the cold air.
• 50 people died on Mt Washington
• The winds on Mt Washington can go up to 85 mph
• A tornado is a rapidly spinning tube of air that’s touches
both the ground and a cloud above
• Most tornados have wind speeds less than 100 mph
• Extreme tornados can reach wind speed of over 300 mph
• The spinning wind acts like a hoover
• The Tri-State tornado was the deadliest tornado in
history, killing 695 people.
