OVERVIEW OF THE STUDY
  To develop GIS based information system for Naroda
Industrial Estate.

 Purpose:
  ☺ Efficient industrial estate management
  ☺ Infrastructure planning, development and
    maintenance/management including maintenance, viz.
    roads, water supply, drainage, sewerage, waste,
    plantation
  ☺ Disaster risk planning & management
  ☺ Environmental management incl. pollution control.
  ☺ Property tax details can be incorporated for asset
    management.
LIMITATIONS
  Data regarding infrastructure facilities like water
supply lines, sewerage lines have been obtained
from secondary source which are relatively old.
Hence the present scenario may not have been
properly highlighted.


 The entire study has been done in a time span of
two months. Hence there lies a scope of further and
more exhaustive study in future.
METHODOLOGY
 The GIS maps have been prepared with reference to
google earth (satellite) images.

  The plot number and the corresponding industry
information have been updated through primary survey and
the Naroda industries Association directory of Industries.

 The infrastructure (water supply and sewerage network)
data has been obtained from secondary sources.

  The road network has been documented and updated
through primary survey.

 The CETP data has been obtained from the Gujarat
Pollution Control Board audit report.

 There are 15types of roads (based in Right of
 Way).
 Major roads: 36m, 30m, 24m and 20m
 respectively

 Phases I,II and III of the estate does not have
 footpaths.

 Provision made only in Phase-IV of the Estate.

 It is a combination of pavers and concrete
 blocks over storm water drain.

STORM WATER DRAINS

General Information

• Phase I, II and III have no storm water drainage
  facility.

• Phase IV has been provided with storm water
  drainage system.

General Information

 Electricity is distributed with the help of electric

 poles with cross bars.

 Lack of proper signage system in the Estate.
 No map showing the way into the estate locating
 the different industries.
 Present signage’s are not in good condition.
 Some Industries do not have proper signage
 (indicating their type, plot number, raw material
 used and waste material produced etc.)
 Certain places there is an excess of signage
 placed randomly.
 There is no signage indicating entry/ exit in the
 Naroda Industrial Estate.
PLANTATION/GREENARY




     Plants growing up along the road and walkway are not
   desirable. The area meant for plantation is used for dumping
                the construction material/ garbage.

 Most areas of the estate lack proper landscaping.
 Few industries have taken effort to landscape their
 frontage (but they are far and few and sparsely
 placed).
 Also existing plantation lacks proper care and
 maintenance.
 Roadside plants have been destroyed due to ongoing
 construction on roads (need to be renewed after their
 completion).
 There is plantation provided along the CETP acting as a
 buffer area.
 Block plantation has been done in the plot next to the
 post office.

Environmental Audit Report about Hazardous Solid Waste July to December 2010


 Company got the authorization to receive Solid waste of
 various types like:

     Iron Sludge
     ETP Sludge
     Brine
     Gypsum Waste
     Waste carbon from the ETP
     Incineration Ash
The main objectives of this audit were:

 To scrutinize, check and verify various records of the TSDF site as well
as their receiving quantity and quality of sludge.

 To check efficacy of Environmental Management System
Details about the solid waste generated by the member industries

Details about the TSDF site organized by NEPL.

  TSDF Site is treating the solid waste dumped in
  the pit developed for approximate capacity of
  8.5 Lacs MT.

  Quality of ambient air is within stipulated norms
  of GPCB at the TSDF site

  Noise level was found to be within the
  stipulated norms of GPCB inside the NEPL- TSDF
  landfill site premises.

  NEPL has developed Naroda Eco Park which is
  adjacent to the current site and is very well
  appreciated for its beautiful landscape and
  greenery.

  The company is proposing to raise the height of
  the site to fulfill the requirements for the next
  year.
Company is developing the centre of
Excellence – Paryavaran Mandir, which
has

etc

Which will also facilitate to carry out the
educational programs

Records of Sludge Quantity Dumped in
the pit by each of the member
industry are well maintained by the
TSDF Site.

TSDF site is well equipped with essential
first aid facility and has good general
housekeeping.
Domestic waste and garbage
At many places domestic waste can be
seen lying around the road side and in
the open plots and other open areas
creating unhygienic conditions and
problems like chocking of drains and
poor accessibility on roads.




                                   Construction waste Quantity wise this kind of
                                   waste is maximum in amount. It consists of
                                   dismantled rcc structures, stones, bricks and
                                   other construction debris.
                                         NIA has done arrangements for common
                                         collection site located in Phase-II, near utility
                                         corridor G9.
                                         From here it is collected by the Ahmedabad
                                         Municipal Corporation and dumped to their
                                         garbage sites.
Reasons for present status:

  Domestic and trade waste is thrown on
streets and roads.

 Construction debris is left unattended.

 Industrial waste disposed off in open
areas.

  Design & location of municipal waste
storage depots inappropriate, resulting
in littering of garbage.

 Street sweeping not done everyday.

  Waste transportation system not being
very efficient in terms of frequency and
the quantity of waste produced.

  • 1. GIS based information system for Naroda Industrial Estate
  • 2. OVERVIEW OF THE STUDY To develop GIS based information system for Naroda Industrial Estate. Purpose: ☺ Efficient industrial estate management ☺ Infrastructure planning, development and maintenance/management including maintenance, viz. roads, water supply, drainage, sewerage, waste, plantation ☺ Disaster risk planning & management ☺ Environmental management incl. pollution control. ☺ Property tax details can be incorporated for asset management.
  • 3. LIMITATIONS Data regarding infrastructure facilities like water supply lines, sewerage lines have been obtained from secondary source which are relatively old. Hence the present scenario may not have been properly highlighted. The entire study has been done in a time span of two months. Hence there lies a scope of further and more exhaustive study in future.
  • 4. METHODOLOGY The GIS maps have been prepared with reference to google earth (satellite) images. The plot number and the corresponding industry information have been updated through primary survey and the Naroda industries Association directory of Industries. The infrastructure (water supply and sewerage network) data has been obtained from secondary sources. The road network has been documented and updated through primary survey. The CETP data has been obtained from the Gujarat Pollution Control Board audit report.

There is no signage indicating entry/ exit in the Naroda Industrial Estate.

  • 38. Details about the TSDF site organized by NEPL. TSDF Site is treating the solid waste dumped in the pit developed for approximate capacity of 8.5 Lacs MT. Quality of ambient air is within stipulated norms of GPCB at the TSDF site Noise level was found to be within the stipulated norms of GPCB inside the NEPL- TSDF landfill site premises. NEPL has developed Naroda Eco Park which is adjacent to the current site and is very well appreciated for its beautiful landscape and greenery. The company is proposing to raise the height of the site to fulfill the requirements for the next year.

Company is developing the centre of Excellence – Paryavaran Mandir, which has Waste Display centre, Laboratory, Conference room etc Which will also facilitate to carry out the educational programs Records of Sludge Quantity Dumped in the pit by each of the member industry are well maintained by the TSDF Site. TSDF site is well equipped with essential first aid facility and has good general housekeeping.
  • 40. Domestic waste and garbage At many places domestic waste can be seen lying around the road side and in the open plots and other open areas creating unhygienic conditions and problems like chocking of drains and poor accessibility on roads. Construction waste Quantity wise this kind of waste is maximum in amount. It consists of dismantled rcc structures, stones, bricks and other construction debris. NIA has done arrangements for common collection site located in Phase-II, near utility corridor G9. From here it is collected by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation and dumped to their garbage sites.
  • 41. Reasons for present status: Domestic and trade waste is thrown on streets and roads. Construction debris is left unattended. Industrial waste disposed off in open areas. Design & location of municipal waste storage depots inappropriate, resulting in littering of garbage. Street sweeping not done everyday. Waste transportation system not being very efficient in terms of frequency and the quantity of waste produced.
