The life and times of a SkiBy Dominique
My family history (Above, my dear grandmother and grandfather) My grandparents were originally from Norway. The nomads there used them for travel- however, I am not a lowly stick used for travel! See for yourself! I am a highly sophisticated piece of equipment made for the speed of hurtling down a cold mountain.
My beginnings… (Above left, home sweet home .Above right, cutting me out ) First some people took wood(pine for me) from the pine forest in Texas- they chopped down the whole tree. They then cut out the perfect shape that is me out of the center .
The Glass and titanium Then they lay the new me into a mold- It was filled with fiberglass. While we were waiting for the titanium to line my edge, the glass told me about its life. I t had originally just been a few grains of sand, but then it had been melted down, turned into a few tread-like strands, and had then been woven. This made it into a sort of cloth. Then, they had coated fiberglass with plastic so he wouldn’t splinter. The glass was still bewildered! All of this had happened so fast.
The life of titanium Then the titanium joined us, bragging about how expensive it was. “first they had to churn up the perfect sand, me” he said. “and put me through a wet mill, sort of a mining technique. Then they put me through a dry mill, where they used electricity. They then compressed me into a gas, and then I was squashed into a solid again. I really am the coolest material of them all. My cousin is even built into a super fast airplane!”
In which I am squashed together woth my friends They took us in our mold, and brought it to a machine that squished us and baked us at the same time. OW! I can’t believe that they were that cruel, but there you go. Simple. We are worth less than their mutated evil joy.
In which titanium is shaved After they nearly killed us, they took us out and cleaned our edges and smoothed my friend fiberglass. It was quite the experience. It felt like I was going to die! What is it with these people?
Testing of me I was almost done- only a few more tests…. Finally, I was finished!
The way I affected the enviorment Now, don’t think that I am completely friendly to the enviorment. I did produce quite a bit of pollution. The machines required to create titanium and fiberglass were quite full of pollution. And then, I am made from pine, which is slowly being taken from forests. It would be great if they didn’t use titanium in their skis, of forgot to use pine, but still, I CAN be recycled. I have seen people turn us into benches, swings….even houses!
Ski, live laugh Now go ski!!!!!
