- Sahana disaster management software has evolved from early efforts in the 1990s to help with refugee crises through its use in response to major disasters like the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.
- The current state of Sahana faces challenges of moving to a stable 1.0 public release while continuing to develop new features. A 1.0 release would help emergency managers rely on it more.
- Future development of Sahana should include a logistics management system, which is critical but not fully developed in most disaster management systems. A student project and volunteer efforts could help build this for Sahana.
