How my life was ruined

4. For a long time, education looked like this.

5. The teacher was the authority, sprinkling information on thirsty students.

6. Paulo Freire likened traditional teachers to bank tellers, doling out information in frugal
doses.

7. Students were considered sheep, needing to be led.

8. Then, some people said, “Stop!”

9. Maybe things were out of order.

10. Maybe students could work to build their own understanding.

11. Maybe students had something to say, something that needed saying, and the saying of
which would allow them to educate themselves.

12. They could communicate and collaborate.

13. They could create.

14. There are lots of tools to let this happen.

15. Lots of ways students can grow their understanding.

16. They make posters

17. They make models

18. They perform experiments

19. They go on field trips

20. They work together.

21. All of it designed to have the students construct their own meaning and understanding.

22. And then, along came Web 2.0

23. Instantly, people could communicate, collaborate, and think together ...

24. Suddenly being an author with a real audience became a reality for just about
anybody...students included

25. In all kinds of new ways.

28. Podcasts

29. Social Networks

30. Google Docs

31. Vokis

32. Voicethread

34. What when students get to use their own voices? have a voice?
