- 2. IMAGES OUT OF THE ORDINARY EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK IN AMSTERDAM THERE ARE BIKES. EVERYONE RIDES THEM AND THEY HAVE PRIORITY OVER EVERYTHING. BIKES IN AMSTERDAM ARE DIFFERENT, MOST ARE OLD-FASHIONED, MANY DON’T HAVE BRAKES AND SOME ARE JUST PLAIN WEIRD. AND AMSTERDAMMERS RIDE THEM WITHOUT HELMETS, OFTEN LOADED DOWN WITH EVERYTHING FROM SHOPPING BAGS TO DOGS AND SMALL CHILDREN. MOST CYCLISTS SEEM TO BE ON THE PHONE OR LISTENING TO MUSIC, BUT RARELY DO YOU SEE AN ACCIDENT.
