PechaKucha Night was devised in Tokyo in February 2003 as an event for young designers to meet, network, and show their work in public. It has turned into a massive celebration, with events happening in hundreds of cities around the world, inspiring creatives worldwide. Drawing its name from the Japanese term for the sound of "chit chat", it rests on a presentation format that is based on a simple idea: 20 images x 20 seconds. It's a format that makes presentations concise, and keeps things moving at a rapid pace.

- Social media policy / guidelines – best practices… we are always expanding this.
- One of the first higher ed institutions to join Google+ pages.
- UNH Facebook page – used daily – many likes and a place for engagement and sharing. The new timeline is out for pages, not a large fan of this due to the layout and columns.
- Photos are a great way to re-connect with alumni, parents, and students studying abroad. Asking questions and engaging your facebook audience is a great way to garner feedback and interact.
- Not all feedback is positive, but that’s okay. It can help UNH get better and let’s everyone have a voice. Some folks use harsh words, but if it’s not derogatory or threatening, we leave it up as other’s may want to comment on a comment, creating a conversation.
- Sharing photos and info about current students and exciting things they’re doing helps promote the university and engages conversations and showcases student involvement.
- UNH Twitter account – I spoke about @UNH versus @UofNH – this account was started publicly after Thanksgiving and many students are now using Twitter and it’s a great way to relay info, including campus activities, curtailment, concerts, athletics, and sharing photos.
- Photo contests allow us to connect with students via twitter and offer small prizes. Photos were not asked for, but provided by students which only helps promote unh when retweeted and shared.
- Interaction with students, alumni, staff, faculty to ask what they want and how Unh can help. Twitter is a great tool for asking questions and receiving feedback.
- Instagram is a way to take photos and share quickly through Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, Tumblr, Email, and more… hopefully soon Google+. There are always student groups set up in the MUB and taking photos and tweeting helps promote their table to other students who might not be on campus or haven’t walked through the MUB.
- We created stickers for our social media index page and many students have stuck them on notebooks, laptops, etc. This student tweeted a photo of his laptop AND notebook. There was no prize, but just a great demonstration of reaching students and being able to connect and share. Once again, promoting UNH through Twitter and social media.
- Foursquare is a location based Mobile app that many students use, even though many are not following UNH yet, they are using the app as our reports have shown. Our page is foursquare.com/UofNH and we are just starting to really promote this with UNH Dining and UNH Athletics beginning campaigns shortly. Stickers in every dining hall and campus convenience locations that reward mayors and frequent guests with food specials at various locations on the UNH campus.
- Pinterest is a unique way of sharing items, mostly photos through pinning interesting things to boards of the same genre. It is another way for UNH to promote many departments and events on campus and it is all through a compressed visual bulletin board that expands inside each board to highlight colleges, noteable alums, athletes, books by unh authors, and local places (not a fan of the new look and feel)
- UNH has an official Alumni Association group on LinkedIn. It is mostly use for posting and looking for jobs through a network of UNH alums all over the world. If you’re an alum and haven’t joined yet, please search UNH Alumni Association – Official Group, as there is an add’l group created by a student that is not official and it can be confusing. We’ve asked him to join UNH and make it one large family… We’ll see.
- Where do we get our stats? Analytics, and reports about how we’re doing? We use Sprout Social, which can customize reports for Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare, Google Analytics, and more. It also let’s us schedule tweets or facebook updates(like Hootsuite, Tweetdeck) and it’s affordable. Reports are available in PDF and CSV forms.
