- Short introduction: In the Netherlands there is a small but promising remote sensing value adding sector. The sector is dominated by small enterprises which are often spinoffs of universities and technological institutes. They are often closely linked to these institutions. In 2012 180 FTE where counted and a revenue of 16 Million Euros. The advent of the Eu Earth observation program Copernicus is a boost for this sector.
- Toelichting De serie satellietmissies dragen een reeks technologieën, zoals radar en multi-spectrale imaging instrumenten voor land, oceaan en atmosfeer monitoring: Sentinel-1 (radar) is een polaire baan, alle weersomstandigheden, dag-en-nacht radar imaging missie voor land en oceaan diensten. De eerste Sentinel-1 satelliet werd gelanceerd op 3 april 2014. Sentinel-2 (hoge resolutie beelden) is een polaire baan, multispectrale hoge-resolutie imaging missie voor landmonitoring en levert beeldmateriaal voor bijvoorbeeld vegetatie, bodem en water, binnenwateren en kustgebieden. Sentinel-2 kan ook informatie leveren voor hulpdiensten. De eerste Sentinel-2 satelliet werd gelanceerd op 23 juni 2015. Sentinel-3 (oceanografie en landgebruik) is een multi-instrument missie voor het meten van zeeoppervlak topografie, zee- en landoppervlaktetemperatuur, oceaankleur en landoppervlak, met radar-alimetrie, infrarood radiometer en hyperspectrale sensoren. De missie zal oceaan forecasting systemen, evenals het milieu en klimaat controle te ondersteunen. Geplande lanceerdatum december 2015 Sentinel-4 (meteorologie) is een payload op de Meteosat Third Generation-Sounder (MTG-S) satelliet in een geostationaire baan gewijd aan atmosferische monitoring. Sentinel-5 Precursor (atmosfeeronderzoek) missie zal worden gewijd aan de atmosferische monitoring. Tropomi is een satellietinstrument van Nederlandse makelij dat nauwkeuriger dan ooit de luchtkwaliteit en atmosfeer onderzoekt. Het is het enige instrument aan boord van de Sentinel-5 precursor satelliet, gebaseerd op de successen van SCIAMACHY (op de ESA-satelliet Envisat) en OMI (Op de NASA-satelliet Aura) en garandeert een continue stroom van informatie voor wetenschappelijke studies. Sentinel-5 (atmosfeeronderzoek) is een payload aan boord van een MetOp Second Generation satelliet in een polaire baan die zal toezien op de chemische samenstelling van de atmosfeer.

- Infrastructure To anticipate on the arrival of open data from Copernicus in 2012 the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Netherlands Space Office introduced the National Satellite Data Portal. This Portal gives access to commercial remote sensing data which closely resembles the expected datastream from Copernicus. The data is available as open data for Dutch users. The purpose of this portal is to stimulate the use of satellite data in new products and services. In this way the Dutch Remote Sensing Sector would be Copernicus-ready on time. All data is in a raw format. Before it can be used in GIS-applications preprocessing is necessary.

- This new portal will be made available to the public at the end of this month on a national business-conference on geo-information, The Geo-Buzz. The data which can be retrieved is processed data from SDP 2; Within 48 hours data in SDP 1 will be available as processed data in SDP 2. This includes images-services (WMS-services) and download-services
- The second part of this presentation is an overview of some application areas of satellite data in the private and public sector in the Netherlands Precision farming 2.0. The Ministry of Economic affairs promotes the collaboration among the private sector, public organisations and research institions through public-private partnerships. The private sector can formulate scientific questions and sets the research agenda. Results of the reseach projects can quickly flow into new applications and tools in precision farming. Thema 1. - Use cases bij NVWA : uitgestelde maaidatums; plas-dras situaties en nateelt van vanggewassen NVWA : Engels : the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority Use cases bij RWS : dichtgroeien uiterwaarden; eutrofiering zeewater en zoet/zout gradienten in getijdengebieden Rijkswaterstaat is responsible for the design, construction, management and maintenance of the main infrastructure facilities in the Netherlands. This includes the main road network, the main waterway network and watersystems.
- In summary: The Netherlands is building an infrastructure to mainstream satellitedata into the national geo-information infrastructure. At the same time use cases and business cases are being developend in the private and public sector where satellitedata can be of use to develop smart and effective new solutions
