Minerals and Rocks
●

Mineral: A mineral is a naturally occurring

inorganic solid that has a definite chemical
composition and crystalline structure.

Rock: A rock is a solid mass formed by

●

natural mineral.
The properties of a mineral

●

Properties: Are hardness, lustre,

colour, streak, transparency, cleavage,
magnetims.
Types of rocks

Types of rocks: there are
sedimentary rocks, igneous rocks,
plutunic rocks.
Sedimentary rocks
Sedimentary rocks: Are formed
when sediments at the bottom of
basins are compacted by material
above.
Igneous rocks
Igneous rocks: Are formed when
magma cools down. It is divided in
two parts: intrusive (plutonic):The
magma cools slowly inside the
earth,and the second part is
extrusive (volcanic) rocks are when
the magma cools down quickly on the
surface.
Metamorphic rocks
Metamorphic rocks: Are formed
when rocks are put at high
temperatures.The composition
changes but the rock doesn't melt.
This picture represents the
structure of the earth.
