What is Music Education? The teaching and learning of Music.. But, it’s not just instruments. It is: Music Appreciation Sensitivity Vocabulary Discipline Problem Solving Skills And More..
Importance Of Music Considered to be a     fundamental component    of CULTURE &BEHAVIOR Like language, it’s an accomplishment that      distinguishes us      as Humans
History of Music Education Has been around since before 18th Century. Boston became  the model… (Other cities shaped  Musical Education  Programs to follow.)
History continued.. 1717- first singing school (Boston)     for bettering music in church 1700-1820 – there were 375 tuning books published 1832- Boston Academy of Music Teach singing and theory as well as methods of teaching
Current “History” Less prevalent in schools today Becoming more and more popular in colleges. Top Rated Music Colleges: http://education-portal.com/top_rated_music_colleges.html
Standards and Assessments 1.  Singing; alone and with others 2.  Performing on instruments,      alone and with others 3.   Improvising melodies,      variations, and      accompaniments. 4.  Composing and arranging  (within specified guidelines)
Standards and Assessments Continued Reading music Listening to, and analyzing music Evaluating music and performances Understanding relationships between music and other disciplines Understanding music in relation to history and other culture
Integrating Music with Other Subjects Music can help build students in several other, core subjects. It is encouraged to integrate all art classes with other subjects.
Integrating Music with Other Subjects Try integrating music with Math, English, etc. It also helps with 	problem solving,  discipline,  motivation, etc.

Effects of Music There are physical and emotional effects to different styles of music Physical:  Soft ballads = relaxing, tranquility, etc. Loud, Fast = exhilarating, excitement, etc.
Effects of Music Music and mood are connected! Emotional:  Music signals in movies give us warning of things to come.  It sets the mood of the scene, or movie as a whole. It can help set the mood of your classroom.
