SUNDAY PARKWAYS OVERVIEW Portland Sunday Parkways promotes healthy active living through a series of free events opening the city's largest public space -- its streets -- to walk, bike, roll, and discover active transportation. Portland Sunday Parkwaysfosters civic pride, stimulates economic development, and represents the community, business and government investments in Portland's vitality, livability and diversity. - 4. Families and children can safely walk, bike and roll in the streets.
- 5. Parks along the route are filledwith activities, games, entertainment and food.
- 7. Help Sunday Parkways participants stay safe and on-route.
- 9. BARRICADES Barricades go up at every closed intersection. They prevent cars from driving on course. When neighbors need to get to or from their house, Volunteers help and move the barricades.
- 11. Drivers must be escorted by a volunteer while on route.
- 12. Volunteers let Sunday Parkways participants know a car is coming.
- 13. Drivers must turn left or right to leave route at the first intersection.
- 15. Drivers must be escorted by a volunteer while on route.
- 16. Drivers are not allowed to go multiple blocks.
- 18. Police are at all major roads crossing the route.
- 20. ACCIDENT PROTOCOL You may be the first person at the scene of an accident. Be prepared. WHEN THERE IS AN ACCIDENT: 1) Clear area of participants and evaluate the situation. 2) If serious, immediately call 911. 3) Use Band-Aids and non-latex gloves from Intersection Superhero bag or Information Booth. More first-aid supplies are at Info Booths located at each park. 4) More than a bump or scrape? Fill out an Incident Report Form and call a Sunday Parkways Staff or Superhero Coordinator. ** Photo not from Portland Sunday Parkways. All our participants wear bike helmets when riding with their umbrellas
- 25. Receive a Sunday Parkways t-shirt to wear on your shift and identify you as a Parkways Volunteer.
- 26. Snacks and water will be available during your shift.
- 27. Restrooms are located throughout the route.
