Douglas Mawson was born in 1882 in England but moved to Australia as a young man, where he lived for the rest of his life. He was a geologist and Antarctic explorer who led expeditions to explore Antarctica four times between 1909 and 1931. Mawson explored Antarctica to study its glaciers, volcanoes, and reach the South Pole, and helped discover and map the continent while also being the first to use radio technology there.
