JOSM (Java OpenStreetMap) is
basically a Java based stand alone
OpenStreetMap program

It is written in Java 1.6 (the latest
version of Java is Java 7)
it means it can work on multiple
platforms without any problem
It is a stand alone program
meaning even without the internet you
can do somethings

7. Installation

8. Go to the JOSM website (via search engine or URL)
from their you can select the appropriate
installer for your system

9. For Mac (OS Lion)
launch the application via launch pad

10. Opening Screen
you will be greeted by a screen with a list of updates you
may choose to ignore this

12. Downloading the Area
navigate to the area you want; then draw a square across the area; click download
the program will now download map data for the area

the accomplished map will look something like this

14. Inserting and annotating polygons with JOSM

15. Map View: Bing Sat
if you see a black screen, go to imagery -> Bing Sat
this should fix the problem

16. Drawing
click the draw nodes tool and start making a polygon anywhere on the map
press Q to make right angles

17. Annotation
after creating your polygon, click on add in the properties/
memberships window
this will bring up out the “Add value?” pop up window

18. Annotation 2
write building for key and yes for value
press OK

19. Uploading your data
simply click on file -> upload data

20. Uploading your data II
write a short description for your polygon
don’t forget to enter your username and password for authentication

21. Viewing the Results
simply go to the OpenStreetMap website
and view the edited area
