2. IT HAPPENS EVERY YEAR, SOMETIMES MORE
THAN ONCE…
The time comes for your library to gather data on user experiences, events,
activities, complaints, whatever...
First, you groan when you remember how hard it is to get users to respond.
Then you plan. And get techie!
For this, you will need:
o A Google Drive account
o A tablet (though alternatives can be had)
o Enough wit to create a quick-and-dirty (but effective) questionnaire

3. WHY GOOGLE FORMS?
It’s free! It’s easy! It’s so pretty!

4. BUT LET’S GET SERIOUS
Google Forms is a powerful little tool that gathers data into a spreadsheet
and produces a rich, visual data output, making survey results easy to
read, analyze, and share.
It’s also user-friendly (on both ends) and versatile.
If you can fill in entry boxes, you can create a Google Form.

5. GETTING RESPONSES
Or, how to wrangle patrons into answering your survey.
1. Create a quick questionnaire using Google Forms (via Google Drive).
 Under 5 minutes is best to get responses from busy patrons.
2. Create a shortcut to the survey on your tablet for quick access.
 Or post a sign with a QR code for users to scan while completing
transactions.
3. Arm your most social staff member(s) with tablets and send them into
the wild… er… library… to charm patrons into filling out your survey.
 Show them how it works and why it matters. You’ll be surprised how many
people take an interest if you explain.
4. And to sweeten the deal, offer a random prize.
 For our last survey, we offered an iTunes gift card.

6. LOW BUDGET OPTIONS?
If you don’t have a tablet, that’s ok.
Here are some other possibilities:
 Load the survey as the default homepage on your browsers.
 Email it out to patrons
 Post it on your website and social media accounts
 Use your smartphone as a surveying device.
