3. Understanding Copyright Understand what copyright right material can be freely used in the classroom. How much of the copyright work can we use. Where do we need to get permission?

4. Public Domain Creative work available to anyone without royalties or copyright. Companies, Creative Commons, are working together to define the line of public domain work and copyright. Know what is considered the difference from freeware and shareware.

5. Orphan work Copyrighted: Work which the author can not be contacted. Work which are not registered or transferred. Work which the author/owner died and his/her heirs cannot be found.

6. Content on the Web “Copyright law govern the use of materials you might find on the Internet” Remember not all material on the Internet is copyright free.

7. Implied vs. Express licenses Implied licenses are not always crystal clear. Authors have intend purposes how they want their work to be used. Express licenses identified the rights of the author. Author attaches how he/she wants their work to be use. The author uses companies like Creative Commons license to make easier for users to understand how to use the material.

8. What is Fair Use? “Fair use is a copyright principle based on the belief that the public is entitled to freely use portions of copyrighted materials for purposes of commentary and criticism.”

9. Fair Useliability for infringement Know the rules for fair use when it comes to fair use infringement. You are responsible for your own actions the penalties for infringements are harsh.

12. TEACH Act The TEACH Act become a law on 2002. The law allows teachers to fair use, display, perform and play other’s work in the classroom. Section 110(2) was created to authorize the teachers to digitize parts of the work for distant education.

13. TEACH Act Requirements The institution must be an accredited institution. Part of the work must be used for instructional activities The work is limited to a number of student per class.

14. TEACH Act Exemptions Electronic reserves, course pack Commercial document delivery License textbooks or other digital material. Materials converted from analog to digital formats. Except! When used for transmissions which are unavailable or protected.
