Our Media Presentation introduces different elements for analyzing texts: media language, representation, genre, narrative. Media language covers specific industry jargon and includes cinematography, editing, sound, and mise en scene. Representation is how a text portrays social groups or issues. Genre categorizes texts based on conventions like thriller, western, or romantic comedy. Narrative structures a story in a linear, chronological way. Audience considers how a text will be read based on factors like location, size, and subjectivity.
6. Representation This is how a media text creates an image of and particular idea of a certain social group, issue place etc. This is presented through cinematography, editing, sound and mise en scene. This relates back to media language.
7. Genre – ‘Type’ or ‘kind’ This is how media texts can be categorized. There are conventions to each genre and through looking at these a media text will be categorized depending on its contents. Different genres include; thriller, western, romantic comedy and chick flick. There are conventions of iconography and conventions of theme.
8. Narrative This is how a story is structured or organised. It will normally be linear or chronological. The conventions of narrative allow for times and spaces to be orgnised in a way that is meaningful to the viewer.
9. Audience Considers how a text will be read and how it will be interacted with. Audiences can be defined through location, consumption, size and subjectivity.
