1. We started the year reviewing our sounds. We used a sound mat to review the consonants, the vowel digraphs and the consonant digraphs.

2. We took turns with our partners sounding out the letters.

3. Sounding out letters from a sound mat is like playing ping pong, too. Some of us have to point to our partner about what sound will come next.

4. We are almost ending our unit on Growth. We read about how we make paper from trees. Ms. Shortridge shared her experiment making paper form recycled materials. We felt the sticky and wet material of pulp that comes from trees .

5. We learned about composting and how materials such as dried leaves, soil and discarded fruits or vegetables from the garbage can turn into the best fertilizer for plants. We used the word “organic” to differentiate the kind of compost that is good for plants.

6. Our compost heap has layers… Of dried leaves, soil, and some of my favorite fruits!

7. At the end of the unit, we listed down all the vocabulary words from our unit on Growth. We brainstormed our ideas and checked on the meaning of the words so we could write ONE important idea we learned from the unit. We had to pick three words from the list to write a sentence and used another set of words to write down a question.

8. This is the fruit, you wash with the water and dry in the sun. I take care of plants. There are many plants in the Earth.

9. The wind blows the tree that gives oxygen.

10. This is the Earth we live. Earth is our home. When you go there, we can eat fruit. and save our life. The soil is holding the seed so the seed can grow into a plant.
