2. A Romanian story 22 December 2006: The order no. 5959 of the Minister of Education Mihail H ărdău removes history of life and theory of evolution from the high school Biology curriculum. The order becomes effective in the academic year 2007/2008.
3.
4. A Romanian story Context: Same order removes the chapter on God from the Philosophy curriculum. Religion is studied grades 1-12 and is defined as a core course. A 2007 governmental poll showed that 73% of students (grades 7-12) believe human beings were created by God with only 14% referring to evolution. Only 27% think that science is the authority on the subject.
5. A Romanian story Context: Evolution out, but religion labs . School no. 19 ‘Tudor Arghezi’, Bucharest (September 2007):
6. A Romanian story Context: 68 academies endorsed a June 2006 statement by the InterAcademy Panel (IAP) supporting the teaching of evolution. Regional exceptions: the Romanian and Czech academies. Resolution no. 1580, “The dangers of creationism in education”, of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe supports the IAP statement.
7. Except this is not just a Romanian story Serbia, September 2004: Minister of Education Ljiljana Čolić suspends the teaching of evolution. A new curriculum should have provided equal standing to creationism and evolution. Following protests, Čolić had to resign.
8. Except this is not just a Romanian story Poland, October 2006: Deputy Minister of Education Mirosław Orzechowski declares that ‘the theory of evolution is a lie, a mistake that has been legalized as a common truth’. On the other hand, ‘there has been another conception which has survived 2000 years: creationism. It is the truth of civilization, which comes from faith…’
9. Except this is not just a Romanian story 11 October 2006: Maciej Giertych, Polish Euro MP, organizes a hearing questioning the theory of evolution at the European Parliament. Roman Giertych, then the Minister of Education of Poland, expressed somewhat more moderate views.
10. A simple claim Decent scientific education, not indoctrination. Science in science classes. The film is a symbolic reminder, not an argument.
