Optical Illusions
Pictures can trick
your mind.
1. Is one center dot bigger 2. Are the horizontal lines
than the other? slanted?

Answers and Explanations for the Teacher:
1. The center dots are the same size. Because our brains judge the size of an object in relation to the objects
around it, the right center dot seems larger than the left one.
2. The horizontal lines are not slanted, they only seem to be because of the vertical zigzagging.
3. Some people see a vase, and some see two faces. Ask students whether they can see both.
4. All line segments are the same size, but the arrows around them make them seem longer or shorter by comparison.
