As the Hitler's extermination of Jews plan ordered, several houndreds thousands of Jews (30% of Warsaw's population) headed to Warsaw ghetto. Almost four years later, when nazi's came to annihilate ghetto, Jewish rebels launched the Warsaw ghetto uprising to fight for proud death. One year later, when stalin was pursuing germans toward the city, in August 1944 people of Warsaw under command of Home Army (AK) raised against nazi's in Warsaw Uprising in hope that stalin will enter the city. But nothing happened and after 63 days of bloody fights with germans, Home Army (Ak) was forced to capitulate. After uprising hitler ordered to burn and destroy rest of the city in revange for Polish defiance. In 1945 when soviets enters the city, a communist regime was set up. Year 1978 was revolutionary. John Paul 2 become a Pope bringing the hope into a Polish hearts. In 1979 JP2 visit Poland and on today's Pilsudski square says his famous words Let Thy Spirit descend! Let Thy Spirit descend and renew the face of the land! This land. And after that, Polish people stand up against soviet captivity. Solidarity movement have been created and started to grow, to overturn communist regime in 1989 when Poland become independent.
