5. History of Warsaw
City of Warsaw was found around year 1300 at the place of today's Royal castle. As the city growth,
it became a capital of Mazowsze and in 1596 a capital of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth
After the world war first in 1918 when Poland become independent, Warsaw again became a capital.
In 1920 during the Polish Bolshevik war Warsaw was witness of huge battle called "Battle of Warsaw",
wich was claimed the 18 greatest battle in the history of the world. During the WW2 nazi's invaded Poland.
Nine days later German troop's arrived to Warsaw.and started an attack. At first october, after 21 days
of attacks, German troops entered Warsaw and took control over the city. As the Hitler's extermination
of Jews plan ordered, several houndreds thousands of Jews (30% of Warsaw's population) headed
to Warsaw ghetto. Almost four years later, when nazi's came to annihilate ghetto, Jewish rebels launched
the Warsaw ghetto uprising to fight for proud death. One year later, when stalin was pursuing germans
toward the city, in August 1944 people of Warsaw under command of Home Army (AK) raised against
nazi's in Warsaw Uprising in hope that stalin will enter the city. But nothing happened and after 63 days
of bloody fights with germans, Home Army (Ak) was forced to capitulate. After uprising hitler ordered to
burn and destroy rest of the city in revange for Polish defiance. In 1945 when soviets enters the city,
a communist regime was set up. Year 1978 was revolutionary. John Paul 2 become a Pope bringing
the hope into a Polish hearts. In 1979 JP2 visit Poland and on today's Pilsudski square says his famous
words Let Thy Spirit descend! Let Thy Spirit descend and renew the face of the land! This land. And after
that, Polish people stand up against soviet captivity. Solidarity movement have been created and started
to grow, to overturn communist regime in 1989 when Poland become independent.
6. Places of historical importance.
The Warsaw Rising Museum
is dedicated to the uprising in Warsaw.
It was opened on the 60th anniversary of this uprising.
It's here to pay homage to those who fought and died
for independent Poland and the capital of it.
Old Town
is the oldest urban settlement of Warsaw.
There is a collection of historic architecture,
mostly from the XVII and XVIII centuries.
The buildings are surrounded by a ring of walls
from the fourteenth-sixteenth centuries.
The Royal Baths Park
is the largest park in Warsaw.
There are many monuments and old buildings.
You can spend there many hours on walking
