Valid indicators of public health should be measurable, reliable, sensitive, specific, applicable, and relevant. 3. There are different types of public health indicators including rates, ratios, and proportions to assess demographic characteristics, disease processes, physical health status, and social/environmental factors that influence population health. Both static and dynamic indicators are used.
