1. A Closer Look Into a Few of our
Worlds Biomes

3. General Information about the Marine
Biome
• It covers about 75% of the earths surface!
• Marine algae supplies a lot of the oxygen we
breathe!
• The Marine Biome includes oceans, estuaries,
and coral reefs.
4. Marine Animals
The marine biome is home to many types of
animals. The most common type of animal in
this biome is fish. Many types of fish live in
the oceans. But some mammals also live in
the marine biome, such as seals and dolphins.
Crabs and other crustaceans, octopuses and
many more animals can be found in the
marine biome.
5. Marine Plants
• Most people don’t think of plants when they
think of the marine biome, but it is full of
plants. The algae from the oceans provides a
significant amount of the oxygen we breathe.
There is also seaweed, mangrove trees, and
some grasses that grow in the marine biomes
of the world.
6. General Information about the Desert
Biome
• Covers about 1/5 of the earths land.
• Most deserts are low latitude.
• There are four types of deserts: Hot and Dry,
Semiarid, Coastal, and Cold.
• Deserts get very little rainfall.
7. Desert Animals
Because of the heat and lack of water in most
deserts not many large mammals can survive.
The primary animals in deserts are reptiles.
Mice and other nocturnal animals can survive
by burrowing underground during the day to
escape the heat and sun and coming out at
night to eat.
8. Desert Plants
The plants in the desert biome are typically low
plants and shrubs. Cactus also grows in the
desert. Most deserts do not have any tall
trees that provide any coverage. The reason
for these types of plants is the lack of water in
the desert. Tall green plants that we would
see elsewhere could not survive on the limited
water supply in the desert.
9. Interesting Facts About the Forest
Biome
• Forests cover about 1/3 of the land area of
the planet.
• There are 3 main types of forests: Rainforest,
Temperate, and Taiga.
• Forest area is depleting because of humans.
10. Forest Animals
Many insects birds and mammals live in forests.
Because of the shade, water, and vegetation
forests are a haven for many animals. You can
find anything from ants to bears in forests.
11. Forest Plants
The forest biome is filled with 2/3 of the leaf
area of all plants in the world. Forests are
made up of large trees and much vegetation.
The plants are very diverse in the forest biome
depending on the area. Lots of flowers and
moss are mixed in with the trees.
