6. A General Description This tour is a circuit with a medium level of difficulty. You drive on bicycle tracks, streets and field paths. Although there are some little hills to “conquer”, these hills allow a wonderful sight over Mainz and the Rhine Lowlands. In Heidenfahrt there are several opportunities to relax. On way to revive there is the “Biker-Rast”. A lovely place to relax especially built for bikers. It provides some beautiful meadows and seating-accommodations. The track back to Mainz is even and easy to drive.
7. The St. Georg´sChapel The St. George´s Chapel of Heidesheim is situated in the northern part of the village. It was built more than 1500 years ago and it is one of the oldest Chapels of the Mainz Area. St. George´s – built upon an originally Celtic manor – also was a Frankish burial place in the middle ages. It is the village´s landmark and one of the most important historical buildings in the area around Mainz.
8. Windeck Castle Heidesheim: Windeck Castle was built in 1130 to protect the treasuries of Lorsch Abbey. Despoiled and destroyed by the French in 1647 the people of Weinheim used the bricks to rebuild there homes. Today the Castle is completely restored and open for festivities.
