 Mole-Mass Stoichiometry

Ex. How much sulfurous acid can be produced when 128 g
of sulfur dioxide combines with water?

Step 1: Make sure you have a balanced chemical equation for the
reaction. Write the given information under the equation.

Step 2: Determine the appropriate mole ratio to use.
April 09, 2010

Step 3: Convert the given mass to moles.
Remember: Do NOT round off any numbers until the final answer.

Step 4: Calculate the number of moles of unknown.
April 09, 2010

If done in one step:
April 09, 2010

Ex. Hydrochloric acid is added to 50.0 g of iron (II) sulfide. How
many moles of hydrogen sulfide is produced?
April 09, 2010

Ex. How many moles of nitric acid is needed to react completely with
25.0 g of magnesium in the reaction:
Mg + 2HNO3 Mg(NO3)2 + H2(g)
April 09, 2010

Ex. Aluminum reacts with oxygen in the air to form aluminum oxide,
which coats the surface of the metal.

a) How many moles of aluminum are needed to form
3.7 moles of aluminum oxide?

b) How many grams of oxygen are required to completely react with
14.8 moles of aluminum?

c) How many moles of aluminum oxide are formed when 35.6 grams of
oxygen reacts with aluminum?
