Hannah Schreiner conducted directed research over the summer of 2013 under Tom Klinkowstein. The document outlines her research process, which included surveying respected news sources and experts, engaging in discussions with design and other field experts, organizing collected data, analyzing it to find patterns, continuing discussions based on findings, and coming to a conclusion informed by research and discussions. Three topics that Hannah proposed studying are: how to make food distribution more social and transparent, using co-speech and compact messages to assist second language acquisition, and using compact messages about comedy and social issues to engage millennials.

I want to study how food producers can make
distribution social, focusing on transparency
and community organization. I want to know if
a visual organization of information can create
the transparency, so my audience can become
more involved and aware of their own
consumption.

I want to study using co-speech and compact
messages as tools for learning a second
language, because I want to know if it can
assist in acquisition after the critical period, in
order to help my audience to better learn
languages and assimilate into other cultures.

I want to study compact messages relating to
comedy, focusing on current social issues and
millennials. I want to know if the combination
will make the issues more accessible, so my
audience can become more involved.
