1. Every single media product will represent people in different ways depending on their social group,
age and gender. These representations may met, develop or challenged the stereotypes regarding that
specific age or gender.
The main social groups we explored in our media product were Gender and Social Status
Young Male characters
Young male character are nearly always seen as inexperienced and sometimes, don't really have a clue
what is happening around nod them or the severity of an event. This is a negative
representation of young males because it's basically saying they don't really care.
We have shown this by our main character (the victim) not being aware of the spat of
killing around his area. He watches the news but has no idea of what is going on
and doesn't investigate more, he just turns it down and moves on. This meets the general
convention of young males because he isn't very informed or interested in the
events that may affect him.
surround
We made this stereotype clear by showing him watching the news for about 10
seconds and then turning it down and not listening to anything that could affect
him.
Unknown Character
Our second character's age isn't known to the
audience. He appears to be male and appears to
be dangerous, this is shown the male character, He
therefore addresses some stereotypes of different ages. for example, He
drives a moped which is a stereotypical vehicle of young males but, his
plan is very thought-out and he has took precautions so his identity isn't
made known to the public. We haven't let the audience know the
specific age or gender of the character, we have let the audience way
up the stereotypes and come up with an answer them self's.
Female
We don’t have any female actors because they don’t main parts in action film stereotypically. We
chose to follow this stereotype because it is a running theme through action films.
New Reporters
Our news reporter are a male and a female, this follows no stereotype because the news reporters
aren't seen and are used as a voice props. The male voice comes first because it is the most
intimidating, whereas the women voice puts it in sweater terms. The male voice dominates so it gives
a greater effect than the womens voice. This follows the stereotypes that male voices are more
dominant
Location
Locations plays a very big part in showing a characters social status. A big city and big house would
connote wealth, whereas a suburban town wouldn't connote wealth.
2. We have set our film opening in a rural town. The victim lives in an ordinary house with nothing
special. This shows that the victims inst very special and doesn't seem to be very important. This is a
negative stereotype because in reality, size of house and location means nothing.
