2. Public service broadcasting (The BBC)
• The BBC is one of the five public service broadcasters in the UK. Those
Broadcasters receive benefits, such as BBC having a License fee. This gives
guaranteed access to the spectrum that they need for broadcasting and
prominence on TV programme guides. Because of the advantage of license
fee these broadcaster have to give benefit to the viewers like Local
news, Cultural content ETC.

mass communications put together to broadcast to TV to reach a wide
audience.

4. BBC international TV channels
• BBC world news, an international commercially funded 24 hour news
channel. They are not officially shown to UK viewers but is shown BBC
one, BBC news, BBC two. They start around 1am and end at around
5:30am. BBC two is from 11:30pm – 12:00pm, and 19:00pm – 19:30pm is
for BBC four.

• BBC founded on 18th of October 1922. BBC is the world oldest national
broadcasting organization and the largest broadcaster in the world by the
number of employees, with about 23,00 staff members and a revenue is
about 5.086 pounds

6. BBC worldwide
• The BBC wholly owned commercial subsidiary, BBC worldwide, also
operates several international television channels under BBC branding.
BBC America- a general entertainment channel, co-owned with discovery
networks. Showcasing British programmes.
• BBC HD- a high definition channel, currently available in
Belgium, Brazil, Mexico, the Netherlands, Poland, Switzerland and Turkey.
• BBC Entertainment- showing comedy drama, light entertainment and
children’s programming by BBC and other UK production houses available
in the following regions: Asia, Europe (middle
east), Latin, India, Poland, south America and Nordic.

7. BBC worldwide
• BBC Knowledge- documentaries and factual programming, currently
available in Australia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Hong Kong, Indonesia, New
Zealand, Poland, Scandinavia, Singapore and South Africa.
• BBC UKTV- an entertainment channel in Australia and New
Zealand, carrying drama and comedy programmes from the BBC, Talkback
Thames, Channel 4 and ITV.
• UKTV- commercial television network in the UK, co-owned with Scripps
Networks Interactive. The channels broadcast mainly BBC archive and
specially produced programming.
• BBC Persian- news channel that broadcasts in Persian-speaking countries
including Iran, Afghanistan and Tajikistan in the Perisan/Dari/Tajiki
language.

8. Regional UK channels
• BBC one- The corporation’s primary network, broadcasting mainstream
comedy, drama, documentaries, films, news, sport and some children’s
programmes. BBC one is also the home of the BBC’s main 30 minutes
news bulletins, currently shown at 1:00pm, 6:00pm and 10:00pm and
overnight on Monday to Sunday also available in HD.
• BBC Two- Home to more specialist programming, including
comedy, documentaries, dramas, children’s programming and minority
interest programmes, as well imported programmes from other
countries, particularly the United States. One thing they do especially on
BBC two is put on Newsnight, a 50 minute news analysis programme
shown each weeknight at 22:30 and also available in HD.

9. Regional UK channels
• BBC Three- Particularly new comedy sketches shows and sitcoms.
• BBC Four- Niche programming for an intellectual audience, including
specialists documentaries, occasional ‘serious’ dramas, live
theatre, foreign language films and television programmes and ‘prestige’
archives television repeats.
• BBC News- The one channel that is absolutely full of news
• BBC Parliament- The corporations dedicated politics channel; Covering UK
and Scottish parliament Welsh and northern Ireland assembly and also
international politics.
• CBBC- For children aged six and above.
• Cbeebies- For under six.

10. The license Fee

The BBC have an advantage because they get money from the TV license, This
would help because the money they get will go out of making high
quality, multinational programming for all the BBC watchers to enjoy, and the
shows might appeal to other audiences. In the United Kingdom everyone that
owns a household and watches or records Television Must pay TV license, its
against the law if you don't. The yearly price for TV license is £145.50 for colour TV
and for black and white its £49.00. The total income for 2012-13 License is
£3.6562, but 16% was provided by the government because of the viewers over
the age of 75. Therefore Giving BBC a whopping sum of £5.102 billion in 2012-13.
