IT is a critical enabler of this type of innovation. At HDS, our integrated strategy focuses on 3 layers of technology that align with the evolution of the data landscape. Hitachi is known for exceptional Infrastructure technology, where we enable virtualization, mobility, integrated management and infrastructure on demand. However, with the growth of unstructured data and content, we have added rich capabilities to search, discover and integrate content independent of the applications that create it. And when you are able to extract information and insight from that data, you can achieve the ultimate business value. So HDS is also focused on analytics, integration, greater intelligence and Big Data solutions. All of these capabilities are built upon a single, virtualized platform for all data types to ensure seamless access, protection and management of all information assets.
Challenges in Deploying Private Infrastructure CloudTime to Deploy:Transforming the datacenter to the private cloud quickly and at low costApp Complexity: Creating a deployment/runtime environment for a mix of virtualized & non-virtuallized applicationsMaintaining SLAs: Building infrastructure with the agility & flexibility to consistently perform to committed service levels Automating Operations: Creating efficient, integrated processes that lower OPEX, support speedy deployment & provisioning, & free up IT resources Utilizing Assets more Efficiently:Creating a “single platform” of virtualized assets for greater utilization & performance with lower CAPEX & OPEX costs

So let’s look at that. It starts with the compute infrastructure and some storage. It grows as you grow. You may need compute, so we can add more compute to that. The compute may fit in that rack or you may need another rack. We can add more compute. The key thing of this is I'm in my vCenter interface and I added compute servers and what will come up is all of the compute servers that are bare metal servers that got joined into this infrastructure. I’m in VMware, not in Hitachi's interface. I am in VMware, launched into an native application inside of VMware, that I can then say, “Configure this server. Deploy that into an ESX cluster.” So bare metal servers deployed into an ESX cluster. You then may then add storage, whether that's inside the frame, whether that's outside the frame externally virtualized.Again, as that storage gets deployed, software comes in and says, “Let me deploy storage to my servers.” Again, through vCenter, I click on the Hitachi request of the “I want to add storage.” I configure Hitachi storage. I want to create a new volume. I create that volume. I type in what array it came from. Be able to choose how big I want it. Is it in an HDP pool? An HDT pool? Whatever it happens to be. Click go and I natively take that storage and tie it to the ESX cluster. This typically takes most customers 15 days and coordination between different departments, all done by a VMware administrator. How can we do that? One is, remember, we manage by pools. The storage infrastructure can manage the infrastructure of that pool and not have to focus on the day-to-day tasks. We can then even take things like the networking infrastructure. It was not just about fibre channel and SAN and the storage. Now we need to connect the infrastructure to the IP world. We can then just say, “Configure the network cluster. Choose the network profile we want and apply that to my cluster.” Again simple easy-to-use and all through the vCenter interface. As we grow this as we need, it is also important that I want to keep track of the inventory and be able to monitor. I can now have an infrastructure that says to look at all the servers I have, the SANs storage I have, the Brocade switches I have, the IP, and the fiber channel. I can look at all the information. I can then take all this inventory as well as alerting and monitoring. Be able to look and have various aspects of the monitoring, all sent up through VMware's infrastructure or sent to some SNMP traps out through your overall monitoring infrastructure. Again, tying all these pieces into a single cohesive management infrastructure. All scalable, supported by Hitachi Data Systems. Everything from an inventory, to provisioning, to operating, to monitoring. A single interface, all through vCenter. You’ll see these solutions out on the marketplace today. You also see the solutions eventually coming out through the Microsoft interface stack. Same concept, different way to deploy it.
